I may have to replace my main computer because of a motherboard issue. I want to stay with windows 7 - I don't want to have to try to figure out how to use windows 10. Dell said they don't sell new computers with windows 7. I found a new HP computer that comes with windows 7. I would appreciate any opinion about this machine anyone has - good or bad.HP 280 G2 Small Form Factor Desktop Computer
 
Windows 7 is in it's final stages of support. Buying a computer simply because it comes with an outdated and soon to be unsupported operating system is really silly. Windows 10 is NOT difficult to use and VERY EASY to customise to look and feel EXACTLY like windows 7 if you want the old fashioned appearance. With a new Windows 10 computer you can always put Windows 7 on it if you want to take a backward step.

Windows 7 is now 4 operating system versions old and the people who espouse to use Windows 7 forever will get left behind in terms of available software and hardware before too long. 7 was a good operating system, but it's time to move on.

Will leave it to others to comment on the particular pc you have linked to, apart from saying you might be better buying a more generic type desktop that will allow for SOME maybe future upgrades.

Sorry if this all sounds negative but take the small learning curve and go with a modern operating system:)
 
I've been told that Windows 7 can't run on newer Dell computers which is why I wasn't going in that direction. But I understand your point - assuming I don't have a problem with any of the programs I use running on windows 10, it's a convincing argument to go to a regular Windows 10 computer.
Is there a link I could go to and get an idea of how to make windows 10 look like Windows 7? I'd probably have to ask a friend to do it but I'd like to get an idea of how much work it is and how it would look afterwards.
 
Time to move on..If you are going to need any commercial software that wont run on Windows 10, then you really don't want that software. There of course may be custom made business software created to run on older operating systems, but hey even they are pretty **** rare outside of the business market.

There is stacks of hits if you search on that, but for example my wife hated the idea of going to windows 10 and the best modification for her was to install a different start menu.

She uses Start is back, costs $4.00 and makes your desktop look like Windows 7

I use Open Shell which is freeware and although a little more complex to configure is a great start menu which you can make look like nearly any old windows start menus. Open Shell used to be called Classic Shell.

There are also other free and commercial ones out there, and here's what my Open Shell menu looks like on Windows 10 pro 64bit. It is currently set as partly opaque which is why you can faintly see the desktop shortcut icons behind it.

And here is part my desktop with the start menu open. I have the taskbar at the left because this is a 34inch monitor and would rather lose space at the sides rather than top or bottom.

The desktop shortcut icons are hidden for this pic.

Can you tell what OS this is by looking at the above pics? about all that gives it away is the Windows 8 or 10 start button at the top left, but that can be changed too.

And it's only a click of a mouse button to revert to the windows 10 tiled desktop if you want to change back and forth.
