I have been given a Panel PC that uses XP, It has no HDD but utilises a 1GB COMPACT FLASH car to run programs including windows. However I would like to upgrade that flash card to a 4GB one I have from an old camera.
I have formatted the replacement disc into an NTFS format which is the same as the original, and simply copied everything that is on that original 1GB card onto the new 4GB card. However the system will not BOOT windows XP and is asks to INSERT SYSTEM DISK, I am assuming I have missed out something.
How do make the Panel PC run from the 4GB card.....

Hello

You may have to use exFat and or Fat16 or Fat 32. This will allow the SD card to except any data.. Also i am thinking you will have to make that SD card bootable

They are both COMPACT FLASH cards. The original one (left) must be a bootable Card, how do I make the new one (right) bootable ?

I have cloned the original card, but the "clone" still wont boot the PC. IS there something I need to alter on that initial screen to instruct the Pc to use the newer card to boot ???

  1. Start Rufus. Right click the file and select “Run as Administrator”. Select your SD Card in the “Device” drop down menu. File system should be “Fat32” Check the boxes “Quick Format” and “Create a bootable disk” Select "FreeDOS" for the bootable disk.
  2. Press the “Start” button and wait for it to complete.

Please excuse my nievity but I cant see the CREATE BOOTABLE DISC option (EOS DIGITAL is the name of the CF CARD i am experimenting with the one I intend to use is 4GB.

HI, apologies for my reposting this, I didnt update the response in time, As per original post I have a basic Win XP Panel PC that boots of a 1GB CF card, I am trying to expand that to a 4GB card, but whatever I do to clone/copy the original card, the Panel will not boot.
The pics below are the Boot screen thats displayed when the "Clone" card is inserted, and the lower pic is the PC details.
The panel PC boots instantly when the original 1GB card is inserted.
I have used WIN32 Diskimager, to create an image on the newer 4GB card, that didnt work, and I have also tried RUFUS, and that didnt work.
Any help is very much appreciated. I need the extar

OK one step forward, I have managed to clone the original 1GB CF Card using HDD Copy Tool, so that the new 4GB card boots up the panel PC.....BUT even though the card is 4GB only 1GB shows up on the Panel PC itself. I have partioned the card so that the remaining 3GB is named as a different drive, and can be seen when the card is pluigged into my desktop. But inserted into the Panel PC, only the 1GB portion is visible. Am I doing something wrong or is it simply the Panel PC can only handle a 1GB Flash Card.....

The below pics show the CF on my desktop as DISK 4, The lower picture shows the same card plugged into this Panel PC that is giving me the grief....The toshiba drive is a portable USB drive I use to transfer files..

The biggest thing is that it is not a actual PC with that in mind it has limited capabilities to what it can and can not do.

There is a possibility that it can only use the 1 GB and you end up loosing the 3 GB.

Keeping that in mind have you tried this since it seems to be working in the Panel. Since you can see both partitions in Windows delete the second partition and then tell it to combine the two together?

When I clone the original CF card (1GB) and use a 4GB card for some reason that card partitions itself, to a 1GB Card, and the remaining is unallocated. (this is done on my Win10 Desktop PC) I then allocate that remaining partition as in the pic. Then moving the CF card to the panel PC, it simply sees the 1GB section, and nothing else, which makes me think the panel pc can only handle a 1GB flash card. Im hoping you expert chaps can tell me otherwise. If this is the case and it can only handle the 1GB flash can I install software onto a USB based disk, and run it from there ?
