Hi PCHFMs,

I have this irritating issue.
I'm in the process of transferring files from my old laptop top my new and I bought a multi port usb adaptor so I can transfer. (My old adapter is really flaky and keeps getting disconnected when transferring)

So, the new adapter triggers a message from my Windows 8.1 laptops saying that it doesn't recognize the usb device.

I tried checking for driver updates but it says it's all up to date. I also tried cmd commands to scan device but it says there's no external drive or something like that.

Can somebody help me? Is this a driver issue out is the adapter faulty?

Hi Clint. Have you tried using the USB adapter with another computer to rule out a faulty adapter?

Have you tried the adapter in different USB ports? Does the USB adapter require a separate power source for it to fully power up?

I've tried it in both my old and my new laptop but they are the same brand and model as each other.
I would have to find another laptop with 2 or more USB ports.

I've settled for buying another adapter. Its working fine. After looking up this issue and realizing that it was going to involve looking for drivers and installing potentially malicious software that may or may not solve this problem.... I decided that that's one headache I don't want.

Doesn't seem like anyone is equipped to chime in on this.
I'm moving on to the next headache. Getting my usb drives to stop vanishing files I just moved in to them. They're both new USB pen drives. I just lost 3 videos I need for my work because of this sucker. Lucky I just pasted the other files I wanted to move so I could have them on both laptops.

Sadly no. I'm getting refunded by the vendor and I ended up buying a targus 3.0 usb 4 port adapter. Works well.
