Hi,

Annoying little problem.
When I play music via Windows Media Player I see the attached screen - I can manually start visualizations by right clicking icon in bottom right corner and the selecting visualizations.
But every time I play music, I am met by the same attached screen.

Is there a way to set selected visualization so that every time I play music the visualization is there.(without having to manually do it every time)

Hi roger, there probably is a way to do this, but I have not used WMP for many years as there are so many better players out there for free. Can recommend a couple of good ones if you want?

Would say Pot player is the best of the bunch by far, absolutely better graphics than VLC.

Cheers Gus,
If I don't get an replies, I might try as you suggested.

How are you keeping?
How's the grandson?

Hi Roger, you will be pleased with Pot Player, my only criticism is the options can be a little daunting at first but once setup you can save the settings anyway. If you do try it and need a hand, yell out.

I am well thank you and the grandson will be one year old in two weeks, never seen a baby so happy, we have all been blessed. Hope you are fit and well?

Have you tried to reset the settings for windows media player?

Other than that I agree with Gus use pot player

Doing instructions form memory.

Go into the Control Panel and select Troubleshooter
On the left side select Show All
Then select the one that states Reset Media Player

Rustys/Gus,

Already tried what you suggested.

After much searching I found an answer which is not entirely as I would like.

If I open Windows Media Player and click on View, then change from library to skin, music plays with visualizations.

The only snag is that every time I click on an mp3 track, Media Player opens in a very small window, which I can obviously maximize, but I can't seem to find a way of making the maximize permanent. Everytime I click on an mp3 track Media Player opens in a small window.
Can you suggest any way of fixing so that it is always maximized?

Meanwhile, I have installed PotPlayer (Version 1.7.14804 64bit)
How do I get PotPlayer to open up at maximized every time?
Although I have set PotPlayer as default, everytime I put in a CD or DVD it opens up in Windows Media Player??
Apologies for asking Gus (You Did say the options could be a bit daunting!!!)

Hi roger to get your music or video or whatever to open in Pot Player there are a couple of ways, but try this easy way.

Open Pot Player
  1. Right click anywhere in the empty Pot Player window.
  2. Select preferences from the menu.
  3. Then from the tree on the left of the dialogue box, select Association.
  4. All of the possible file associations are listed as shown below, select whatever ones you want associated with pot player.
You may find that the associations might not stick and you will have to change them in Windows. the box ive marked to the right of the pot player screen explains. If you have any issues let me know. I dont have a windows 7 machine here ATM but I can put it on and get you some instruction pics if you need?

By default Pot Player plays videos in their original size which will vary according to your files. In the same preferences you will see options for setting your preferred size. I normally allow pot player to set the size as some videos stretched are pretty bad quality. An easy way to get pot player to play full screen is just to hit the number 7 key.

Got that Gus - Many thanks - You're a diamond.

You mentioned getting full screen by hitting No.7 key, but what I would like is a maximized screen (not full) to include usual taskbar if possible, when launching PotPlayer? (Everytime)
(Any Suggestions please?)

This use to work in older versions of windows.

Right click on the program and select Properties
Select the Shortcut Tab
Under the Run drop down box change it to Maximize

Hi roger, on my windows 10 machine hitting the number 6 key gives full size with taskbar.

To have Potplayer start in full screen

Open Potplayer and press the F5 key
Expand the "General" option in the tree.
Click "Startup"
In the "When Starting" section, click the down button to the right of "Window Size" option pane, and select from the drop down options whatever you like. You can even select a size manually but experiment with the preset options first. Dont forget to click "Apply" and "OK at the bottom right to save your setting.

Gus,

Many thanks again.
I think that's all the info I need to crack on with PotPlayer.(Any problems I'll come back to you if that's OK)
Certainly seems a much better option than Windows Media Player.

Sincere thanks to you and Rustys for all your assistance.

I think we can mark this one as solved.(y)(y):giggle:

Glad you got it sorted Roger, once you get accustomed to potplayer you will love it. When you get all your settings and options sorted let me know and I'll post the instructions for saving them so you can restore them to another pc or if you ever have to reinstall it. Saves having to reconfigure it. BTW one setting I can't live without is getting Potplayer to shutdown when the current file or playlist has finished, shame it wasn't this way by default.

Will mark solved for now:)
