I know I should of upgraded when I had the chance but that "window" of opportunity closed before I knew it was open.
The way it stands right now, this is a 12 y/o pc that basically belongs to my wife. The 40 gigs of memory is full. I was able to copy files to a thumbdrive. She wants to save ALL here emails and I don't know if they ALL transferred or not.

Here are 2 of the blue screens she received. I don't know why this isn't readable.

You need to delete files to clear up space.
Does the computer have the option to boot from usb?
Thank you for replying. The computer will turn on and surf the web now. But the memory is gone. I tried deleting things but have only gained a small space. Very small. What are the biggest things I can delete?

You can use Treesize to find files on your machine that you may wish to delete.

  • First download and save the portable version of Privazer to your desktop.
  • Go through the options a set Privazer to your needs, select basic or advanced user.
  • When you are done setting Privazer to your needs, then click on start cleaning then scan.
  • This scan can take a while to complete, so it is best that you do it when you have some free time.

You can use the Everything Search Engine to find and remove files from your machine.

  • Searching for file extensions in Everything Search, to help you along the way is easy.
  • You can simply type .mp3 to find all of your music, or .mp4 to find your videos.
  • You can open the file from the tools gui by double clicking it, and then decide if it needs to go.

Using Master Seeker To Find Large Files Over 1 Gigabyte.

  • Download Master Seeker to your desktop, right click it and run as administrator to start the application.
  • To search for files that are a certain size, you can use the search terms in the picture below.
  • By using this method you can find and delete files of a certain size, like 500mb or 1gb.

  • Say you want to find all files 1gb or larger, you type 1gb into the search window of Master Seeker.
  • This will list all files on your machine that are 1gb give or take a few mb.
  • Then you simply right click and delete if you feel the file needs to go.
  • You can search for files of 2gb size, or 300 mb, obviously you want to seek out the larger files with this tool.

I hope and pray I can pull this off. If I do, you all will have achieved with turning this WV Hillbilly into a High Tech Redneck. :)

An often over looked area that obtains a lot of clutter is the downloads folder. Hit the windows key and r at the same time and copy and paste %USERPROFILE%\Downloads into the window and hit ok.

Good deal, we will leave the thread open for 72 hours before we ask for an update.

Not sure if 72 hours is enough. MIL has problems of her own. Ice maker quit working and we have to mow her one acre when it stops raining. Luckily we're retired so no huge hurry to get back home.
We also have to get her car (that she doesn't drive) state inspected. Mandatory in WV.
But I do appreciate all your help!

Thank you my friend. I'm a little slow after 35 treatments of radiation and 7 of cisplatin chemo. Radiation focused on my head and neck. But if you need to lock this thread down, I will understand.

Ok life first.. I will check in in a couple of days.
Veeg, you might as well lock this one up. I'll not be able to work in your time frame. I'm having my upper teeth pulled today due to cancer treatments. Then an appt. with my radiation doctor in a few days. My plate is too full.
Thank you and everybody else for your help.

Closing.
