I need help on this. This problem i made myself, this is what happened.

A few days ago i went to boot up Windows 10 well i left my USB in the port on the laptop with Linux Mint, its not installed, i guess its called Linux Mint-Live. Like a dummy i did hard kill by holding the power button. I then took my USB out of the laptop. Went to boot up Windows 10. The only thing i get is a black screen that says ( no bootable device-start computer again ).

I have tried many things i changed bios boot order, bios defaults, pressed each button, nothing at all works. My Linux works fine. I thought maybe the hard drive but its ok. I have no CD/DVD drive. I have just average experience on Windows and Linux. Thank,s Chuck

Hi Chuck,

Boot off windows 10 DVD/USB do startup repair.
My main OS is windows 10 its not on a USB. I have Linux Mint Live on a USB its not installed. Linux works fine but Windows 10 wont boot at all. I have no optical drive. Newbie here.
Thank,s Chuck

I would like to try that ISO file to USB but i have no clue how to do this from Linux Mint 17.3
I got this laptop about 3 or 4 years it was new with 8 i upgraded to 8.1 then one morning i was booting up it started
downloading 10 i would say i might need the 8.1 ISO. Let me give info on my laptop.
Acer 4 GB Ram, 320 drive, first new 8 then 8.1 now 10
Thank,s Chuck

I don't know how in Linux, can you use a friends windows PC to make the bootable USB, you will need windows 10 not 8 or 8.1

Is the HDD detected in the BIOS, a Seagate HDD will begin with the letters ST and a Western Digital HDD will begin with WD, other brands vary and please note that any mention of a HDD in the Boot sequence that is not labelled with such letters is only the boot order and not the BIOS detecting the presence of a working HDD.

If the HDD is detected and set as the first boot device, try powering up and shutting down the computer a few times, this will hopefully get you into the Windows RE (recovery environment) and troubleshooting options.

Not heard back from you chuck davis, do you still require assistance or is the issue now resolved, an update would be appreciated.

Any update for us chuck davis ? If unreplied to within 48hrs this thread will be closed.
