Windows 10 dual monitor issues

Hi all,

I assume this should go in under Windows 10, apologies if not. I recently got a second monitor and connected it up, all working fine and loving having the extra space. Both monitors are connected to my RTX2600 super via display port and I use Win key + P to change what mode i want them in without issue.

The problem comes when my PC is left and puts the monitors to sleep. When I wake it the main monitor is fine, however the second one stays in standby and windows refuses to acknowledge its existence. Even Win key + P doesn't get it back.

What is going on here? Is this another half baked feature Microsoft didn't finish? Any suggestions on how to fix would be most welcome as a reboot isn't always convenient.

Just to add. Trying to detect the second display in both the windows settings and the NVidia settings fails to find the display.

If the computer is a desktop can you post the brand and model name or number of the power supply (PSU).

Download then run Speccy (free) and post the resultant url for us, details here, this will provide us with information about your computer hardware + any software that you have installed that may explain the present issue/s.

To publish a Speccy profile to the Web:

In Speccy, click File, and then click Publish Snapshot.

In the Publish Snapshot dialog box, click Yes to enable Speccy to proceed.

Speccy publishes the profile and displays a second Publish Snapshot. You can open the URL in your default browser, copy it to the clipboard, or close the dialog box.

You do not have updates turned on and have some updates waiting. It might be an old update waiting a fix (might not).
I know that recent windows update has caused power plan issues.

after you update Windows, check for BIOS updates?
any reason you are on a Domain rather than a Workgroup?
maybe your IT Dept has a group policy or your account level has restrictions.
 
It has happened from the start. I only got my second monitor a few weeks ago. And I have done a fresh reinstall of Windows to see if it would fix it. There are no bios updates, I have latest. The power supply is 650w but has been fine for over 12 months on single monitor.

I'm on a domain because I have a home server and I setup the domain for my own personal use in my home.

long shot but there have been a couple of threads in the past where putting the 2nd monitor on a different power board or power point helped.
try that!

is that PSU the 80+ Gold model?
never heard of that brand, and the 1 year warranty doesn't fill me with hope.

as a test, can you change the settings so Windows sets the 2nd monitor as the main/primary one and see it the screens then swap which one doesn't wake up from sleep mode?
 
Hi. The PSU is 80+ Gold. And when I got it, it was high up on the ratings list of power supllies.

I will definitely try changing the primary monitor to see what happens. And I can disable hibernate too. Will report back my findings. Thanks
 
Sorry for delay...
Hibernation is already disabled, has been since i installed windows...
Monitors are set to sleep after 10mins after which the second wont come back on.
PC is set to sleep at 60mins


As soon as i finished work i will swap the primary monitor in Windows and report back

That's odd. I disabled it when I installed windows and when I checked earlier on power settings it said disabled. Will check again and republish speccy.
 
To disable Hibernation:
  1. The first step is to run the command prompt as administrator. In Windows 10, you can do this by right clicking on the start menu and clicking "Command Prompt (Admin)"
  2. Type in "powercfg.exe /h off" without the quotes and press enter. ...
  3. Now just exit out of command prompt.
