For several months now, windows 10 gives me the blue screen of death very often. Sometimes I can go a week or so between crashes, others it will happen several times a day. I can find no consistency to the crashes. I've had it happen while playing games, while browsing web pages, watching videos, and sometimes it will happen even if I'm not actively using it.

I tried using malwarebytes but that found nothing unusual. I don't think it's a virus, because I'm pretty careful as to what I install, and as for the internet, I go to the same handful of sites that I used for years. And I know that doesn't rule out a virus, I just think it's fairly unlikely. I'm completely lost as to how to fix this issue.

Any help would be appreciated!
 
Hi there @VidgamerX and welcome to PCHF :)

Please download the Sysnative BSOD Dump + System File Collection App - save to Documents folder.

Run the app - Double-click on the downloaded EXE file
Output = new folder created in Documents + a zipped version -- SysnativeFileCollectionApp folder + SysnativeFileCollectionApp.zip.

Please note that the app averages ~3 minutes to run on most systems; other systems - it my take as long as 10-15 minutes to run. Please be patient.

Also note: The app auto-zips the SysnativeFileCollectionApp output folder. It is located in your Documents folder.
Windows Explorer should open and highlight the zipped folder

Please attach the SysnativeFileCollectionApp.zip to your post and await further instructions :)

The same error I get every time I try to download.
 
Ok follow the BSOD prework instructions then. We'll have to do it manually.

Whenever I try to compress the file, or simply attach it to a post, I'm given the message 'Access is denied'.
I checked, and I am running as administrator. So I'm not sure what to do to get access, and I don't want to fumble around and risk botching admin access on my computer.

That said, I did find the file with no problem.
 
You have a hardware fault.

Let's test your RAM to ensure your RAM is OK :)

  • Click Start, type mdsched.exe in the Search box, and then press Enter.
  • Choose whether to restart the computer and run the tool immediately or schedule the tool to run at the next restart.
  • Windows Memory Diagnostics runs automatically after the computer restarts and performs a standard memory test automatically. If you want to perform fewer or more tests, press F1, use the Up and Down arrow keys to set the Test Mix as Basic, Standard, or Extended, and then press F10 to apply the desired settings and resume testing.
  • When testing is completed, the computer restarts automatically. You’ll see the test results when you log on.
 
  • Click on the Start button and in the search box, type Command Prompt
  • When you see Command Prompt on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator
  • When command prompt opens, copy and paste the following command into it, press Enter.

  • Wait for this to finish before you continue
  • Copy and paste the following command, press Enter.

    findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log > %userprofile%\Desktop\sfc.txt
That will create sfc.txt on your Desktop. Please attach sfc.txt to your next post:
  • Open Reply window. Click 'More Reply Options'.
  • Go to the end of your text (if any).
  • Click 'Choose Files..'
  • For 'File name' paste this: %userprofile%\Desktop\sfc.txt
  • Click the 'Add to Post' link which will appear on the right when the file has been uploaded.
  • Click 'Add Reply'.
 
Go ahead and download SeaTools for Windows.

Install it and run it. You'll be greeted with a drive list. Go ahead and select the drive and go to Basic Tests > Short Drive Self Test. If it passes, move on to Short Generic. If that passes, run Long Generic. Note that Long Generic will take an hour or so, so run it overnight.
 
when I run the program, I get a 'bad data' error. It allows the program to start if I click continue on the error message, though no drives are listed after it starts. I clicked rescan, and the program stops responding a couple of minutes after it begins scanning for drives.

When I went back to redownload and try again, I noticed that the list of compatible OSs only lists up to windows 8, not 10. Might that be causing a problem?
