Solved When my computer wakes up - my keyboard is not working

New refurb Dell Small Form Factor. When my computer goes to sleep and I wake it up. it's like my keyboard was disconnected and it doesn't reconnect. So I can't use the keyboard.

To solve this, I just unplug the keyboard and plug it back in and wait 5 seconds and then it works again. It is brand new (cheap as they come) usb keyboard. The mouse is the same quality and this does not happen with it.

Not sure this has anything to do with it, but it is currently plugged into 1 of the front usb ports.

Go into Control Panel to see if USB Selective Suspend is enabled, some copy/paste steps below;

Open the System and Security menu and select Power Options -

Select the Change plan settings option next to your current power plan — Balanced or Power Saver or High Performance

Select Change advanced power settings. That will open a new “Power Options” window.

Expand the USB Settings section and double-click USB selective suspend setting.

Double-click the Enabled option next to the power plan you want to customize (“On battery” or “Plugged in”) and select Disabled.

Select Apply and then OK to save the new USB selective suspend setting.

Restart and test.

Edit to add: Don't be tempted to change the Windows Power Plan to High Performance, it is a form of overclocking that causes stability and overheating issues and should only be used for gaming type notebooks with dedicated GPUs that need the extra power to be able to work.
 
I completed all the steps above and Disabled the USB selective suspend setting.

Tested it and again the keyboard is disabled when the computer awakens and must unplugged and plugged in again for it to worki.
The mouse however does not need this.

I even tried switching the USB ports that the keyboard and mouse are plugged into and again the keyboard didn't work after waking.

Any other ideas?

Tried a different keyboard and this problem doesn't happen. So problem solved.
 
Must be a really cheap unit.
Sometimes hardware just doesn't play nice!
