Hi,

May seem stupid but someone spilt liquid on a hp 15-b137ss and since then it wont turn on. I was given it to look at and looking at the motherboard its taken some damage. I cant see anything burnt out but I believe a new motherboard will resolve this issue. I cant see any water damage on anything else.

I've attached some images.

Not enough info to go on I`m afraid + it would have been better if the notebook was still fully assembled so that you could see what exactly happens when any attempt at powering up the notebook is made, any LEDs blinking etc, an example reason as to why, once had a notebook to repair that had been dismantled by someone who really shouldn`t have done so, I put it back together and used an alternative AC adaptor and the notebook powered up, turns out that the original AC adaptor was bad and hadn`t been charging the battery up for heaven knows how long meaning that the battery was completely dead.
 
It didnt power up before I took it apart. All I have done is cleaned the dust around it and opened it up to see if I can see any burn marks or anything. I've put it back together and its still not showing any lights or life.
 
You could place the laptop/parts inside a plastic bag with some rice which should dry out the parts. It may take a few days & changes of the rice to fully dry things out.
 
Would suggest getting both the AC adaptor and battery tested, if both are good then you are looking at a bad MB, problem is that water causes short circuits meaning that the processor and RAM could also be bad.
 
I've used a new AC adapter as well as new RAM from a working laptop the RAM from this laptop works on the other laptop. So RAM is good.

I've not tried the CPU but as there is no lights on even when the AC is plugged in.
 
When you took it apart did you remove the heat sink from the CPU and when you put it back together did you put thermal goop back on?

RAM may be good the ports that it connects to are a different question.

Always best if you tell us things like this in your opening post, saves us suggesting things that have already been tried.

Was the replacement charger the exact same one as the original, if a generic replacement it must have the same voltage, equal or more amps and the same type/size dianeter jack plug - you should also check the inside of the DC jack plug on the motherboard, some have an internal pin, if that is bent or missing the system will not get any power.

Still say you should get the original AC adaptor and battery tested.
 
Hi,
Cleaned the motherboard up with isopropyl alcohol and that didn't work so I replaced the board with the integrated cpu and that worked.
Then found that part of the keyboard didn't work so that was replaced too.

All working now.
