My wifes laptop keeps getting that message saying access to this PC has been blocked error 85036095. It has done this three times in the past month. the last time it did this she was trying to get on facebook. I have been clearing it by using control -alt delete to bring up task manager and click on end process to the the browser. It goes away and when I open the browser back up a pop up comes up asking if you want the restore pages and I click no. Then everything is fine until you hit the magic button.
What I'm wondering is when you do this does this scam program leave any traces behind or may still be hiding in the background? If it is how do you clean up this mess. I'm also wondering if I should install some other virus protection or is windows defender all I need? Thanks

the inbuilt Defender is all you need.
it has scored as well or better than the products offered by the big boys.

what browser are you using and what extensions are active in your browser?

what security software have you used to scan for infections?
go into Defender and do a scan.
also get Malwarebytes and scan with that.

if you want or need any further, deeper scanning, this thread can be moved the the Malware section and our resident expert will delve deeper.

@olddude

I suggest ublock origin, this will give click happy people less things to click on.

Also, as Bruce has mentioned, we can check for any infection that may be hiding and in the process clean up any clutter and update old programs, if you so choose. 👍

Thanks guys, I've been kind of messed up for the past few days. My shop caught fire and burnt up everything in it so I had more things to worry about that her computer. I hate win 10 and I haven't messed with all the fetures it offers so I guess I'll have to peck around and see what it can do. I haven't run any scans ever on that machine and there are no virus or malware programs on it. I'll do what you said and see what turns up. Thanks

Well that is terrible news! Do what you can when you can, we will leave this thread open. :)
