Not sure this is the right place or not..but need to know if using a flash drive to speed up your computer will only do it if you are low on RAM ? Or it will always speed it up..

Thanks;
hefs

The answer is no, it will not speed up your system. In fact it is most of the time better to disable super fetch. If your machine is running slow, then I would be happy to help you get it going faster.

ok.thanks to you both...
The slowness comes and goes...as does the refresh web page pop up... and like today nothing would load..just hung up..tried task master and it wouldn't load..tried to reboot..<this clears it a lot of the time> had to force the shutdown...rebooted and working ok..
Have cleaned out junk files and programs I wasn't using and ran what diagnostics I could...shows nothing wrong...but every once in awhile acts crazy with the slow down..
Would appreciate any advice..
Thanks..

Step 1: Speccy Scan.

  • Please go here and download Speccy.
  • Install and run the program.
  • Upon Completion:
  • Hit File
  • Publish Snap Shot
  • A link will appear, post that link.

Step 2: MiniToolBox Scan

Please download MINITOOLBOX and run it.

Checkmark following boxes:

Flush DNS
Reset FF proxy Settings
Reset Ie Proxy Settings
Report IE Proxy Settings
Report FF Proxy Settings

List Devices (problems only)

Click Go post the result.

Step 3: Autoruns Scan.

Download Autoruns and Autorunsc Unzip it to your desktop and then double click autoruns.exe
After the scan is finished then click on File>>>>>>>>>>>Save
The default name will be autoruns.arn make sure to save it as Autoruns.txt under the file type option.
in other words make sure it is a .txt file instead of .arn Attach the text in your next reply.

Step 4: HijackThis.

1- Please click HERE to download HijackThis.
2- Run the program.
3- Click on the Main Menu button if not already there.

Adware Cleaner Scan.

Please download AdwCleaner by Xplode onto your desktop.

  • Close all open programs and internet browsers.
  • Double click on adwcleaner.exe to run the tool.

  • Please post the contents of that logfile with your next reply.
  • You can find the logfile at C:\AdwCleaner[S1].txt as well.

JRT Scan.

Please download Junkware Removal Tool and save it on your desktop.

  • Shut down your anti-virus, anti-spyware, and firewall software now to avoid potential conflicts.
  • Run the tool by double-clicking it. If you are using Windows Vista or Windows 7, right-click it and select Run as administrator.

  • Please be patient as this can take a while to complete depending on your system's specifications.

If this thing wasn't so new I would be heading to Best Buy or some place..
One more question..if we can get these things to work...do I send each one separately or is there a way to send them all at once ? This all greek to me as a real 75 yr old novice...thanks for your patience..

Hello @Hilton Heflin you have an update for us?
ok..did a some clean up on files etc..driver and program updates...removed a couple of old programs...
The loading issue seems to be fixed..the only thing I get now ever once in a while is "web page not responding" click on that and everything is ok..
My question is since I am using FIREFOX as my browser now ( was IE11) why does IE come up as not responding when I am on a site ? Only happens once in a while..
Hopefully this took are of my slow issues..because when I went to SAFE MODE (the first time I have done it) I was completely lost as to how to do all the things you wanted me to do..don't see how I can without E-mail...
Really appreciate the help from you and the PCHF community..
Lets see how this goes for awhile and if any more problems will give you a holler..
Thanks;hefs

Does this happen on certain web site(s)?
Have you set Firefox to check and make sure it is the default Browser?
Are you using the latest version of Firefox?
Could you post a screen shot?
Have you reset Firefox?

since I have done the things you ask lets see hoe it goes..

thanks,
hefs

Not confused. Reset internet explorer to default and see if you are able to download and run the tools.
sorry,my old 75 yr old brain just realised I I was getting post from two different people...if I reset IE ...will it make it my default browser again?
I did what Rusty said..lets see how it goes..
thanks,
hefs

If you reset it. It may ask to be default browser. Just decline the offer. It may resolve the issues you speak of.
