Hello,

I was attempting to use the Netflix app on my laptop and was getting an error, which meant I had to update the app. Attempted to update but couldn't, presumably because of my computer. Went into the updates portion of settings and had it look for updates. Giving me this error and saying there were some problems.

Googled it, and tried going into services. Windows update was disabled, but when I tried to set it to "automatic" it said access denied. This account is an admin account. I don't have a clue why it's not letting me get updates.

make sure you click Run as Admin before you click the Services app.
so click Start, literally start typing services and it'll find and show the app at the top of the list.
click Run as Administrator in the right column.

as well as Windows Updates, also Storage Services has to be running for MS Store updates to work.
once both enabled, it can take a minute or so before the Store app detects the change and allows downloads.

is the PC part of a WorkGroup or Domain?

Storage service was still running.

Even with running it as admin, it still says access is denied.

I don't know what you mean by workgroup or domain, it's a personal computer.

have you tried logging in under the Administrator account?
MS Store is specific to each user, so try creating another user account with admin level and log onto it and see if it works.

to check for a workgroup or domain, hit Windows + R to bring up the Run box, type in control system and hit Enter.
what is listed next to Workgroup?

Doesn't garbage windows 10 require a brand new email address for accounts?

It's a workgroup.

So, I was asking a friend and we were able to determine there is a strange issue with my laptop where my account is an administrator, but for certain things I don't seem to be an admin. For example, I am trying to manually install the windows 10 update from the website, but when I run the exe - even run as admin - it tells me I don't have permission to change those files.

did you answer post #4?

have you logged in under the Adminstrator account? (you'll need to know its password)
have you created another user profile (login account) on that PC?

and No, you don't need a new email address or even a MS account to create a new user.

To avoid us having to ask for an update every couple of days we will close this thread until the OP has the time available to work towards resolving the issue.

No, I haven't tried with another account, as the one I'm on now has admin privileges. This is my laptop, so I should have perms.

agreed, should, but that's not a given.
and it may not be a privilege thing, it could be a corrupted profile.
I'd be creating another login account as an admin and trying from there.
also try logging onto the admin account itself.

I'm unable to do the other chkdsk thing, I keep getting this message. Even upon a restart.

How do I make another account when Windows 10 requires you to have a Microsoft email? I only have one.

What do you mean logging onto the admin account itself? I have to sign in via a password when my computer first starts.

Hi again. I made a new account with admin perms and tested it, same result. Oddly, a new account gave very slight progress. Now it shows this:

Strangely, I went into the services as this new account and it still said access denied when trying to enable windows update. It seems to be permanently disabled. I don't know what to do here. I have a working laptop, but it BSOD's randomly when using my browser - that may or may not be related.

I've tried manually installing the update from Microsoft's website. I keep getting this error

I don't know what to do here, it seems like nothing works.
