Hi, new here and could use some help. I tried replacing an HDD with a SSD in an older Sony Vaio laptop (model # svf14ac) and now it will not boot to the OS with the new or old drive. The SSD was previously installed in a another device, but assumed it would install Windows 10 from a thumb drive as I have done a dozen other times on various machines. It booted into setup of windows 10 through the thumb drive and then froze indefinitely. After that I tried putting the original HDD back in but now it goes into some sort of recovery mode, and none of the options have worked. I tried to enter the BIOS but it is/was password protected, presumably by a previous owner. I payed $30 for this device, so nothing major lost here, but would be nice to get it running. I can't find a way to upload pics here, otherwise would show error messages that way.

Any suggestions would be great.

Contact them due to the TOS we can not assist with. Which you may have to resolve first to make changes so the system to work properly.

Have you tried using the install media to clean the drive before the install?

Even recreating the install media on a new thumb drive.

Hi. Yes, I used a flash drive with Windows 10 install media on it, and booted direct from the Flash Drive. When I did this it just froze at the beginning of the Windows 10 install process. I repeated this several times but it kept freezing indefinitely after selecting "Install" Windows. That is what I did first with the SSD (yes, have used that Windows media to install on other machines, so should be OK). Now, even when I put the original HDD back in it will not boot to Windows, goes into recovery mode (see pic, and none of the recovery/rescue options get me back into Windows. Hopefully that makes sense. I just got the BIOS password from the guy (he thinks it's the correct one). Pic attacehed.

Others may have more to ideas.

Did you ever check to see if that was the correct password for the BIOS?

Check the BIOS settings and date and time.
