Hii Pc world thanks in advance
I'm looking to change to Linux because now I've seen the "light" and really don't like Win10. I don't know much about Linux just that they won't force updates on me in the middle of an assignment and is creeping in the background like Cortana. I'm an engineering student and play steam and "downloaded" games occasionally I am NOT a full on computer wiz.
It'd be great to hear peoples opinions on the following:
the difficulty to change to linux and running it,
pro's and con's of running linux,
stability,
security,
operating speeds and performance,

Do you use any software for you class?
As far as games if they are made for windows then not so much not, so easily, and there is software that will software that can be used to run Windows based software in Linux.

If you have not tried Linux before I will suggest that you try it before you install it to you HDD as a primary OS. A lot of people have discovered that it is not what they believe it to be.

As far as secure yes you can still get virus and malware just not to the extent that Windows and Macs do.

Performance will depend on RAM amount and Processor.

Linux Mint is one that I have used for a while and have found it easy to use and navigate.
 
As per Rustys advice, try a live Linux CD or USB before you jump in and get rid of Windows.

And if Windows updates and Cortana are the only issues you have with 10 then why not try disabling them. Get your updates when it suits you, not Microsoft.
 
my two cents worth on Linux.
I have tried 3 or 4 times in the past 10 years to go to Linux.
and every time, after a few weeks of persevering, I go back to Windows. The reasons are always drivers and compatibility.
for example, the driver issues have been wireless adapters and printers, with the printer one taking 4 hours to resolve, which just drove me nuts and should not be so difficult in this day and age.
the compatibility issue is with Office, in particular Excel. I use Excel a lot, have heaps of formulas and VBA macros. Windows Excel has something in tyhe order of 400 formulas, OpenOffice, LibreOffice or whatever I used in Linux only supported 200'ish - so not even close enough to consider in my books.
and this is with modern version on Linux, the last one I tried was Ubuntu LTS 14.
if Linux is going to take away MS users, and retain them, they aren't even in the ball park for this user.
