Hi all,

Just wondering if I can call upon anyone for some assistance with an error I'm having.

Upon booting up my PC I get a blue screen with the error SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED. This stays up indefinitely.

I am able to get to Safe Mode if I restart the PC enough times as every now and again it will ask me if I want to Restart or go to Advanced Options.

I've Googled the problem but the only advise I can find suggests updating the Display Drivers, which upon checking were already at their most recent version. I did uninstall them however and went to HP's website, downloaded the latest ones there and installed them, however the problem still persists.

The computer in question is a Windows 8.1 hp Pavilion laptop.

Thanks in advance for anyone who addresses this post.

Sadly, in my experience at least, there is no clear path forward for this sort of message as it could be a number of things.
Someone says this will help, someone else states that will help.

Bad memory, incompatible drivers, other software, other hardware - the list goes on.
And the solution may not be to get the latest drivers, but any previous driver that has worked.
And therein lies the ‘trial and error’ approach to resolving this sort of broad canvas error message.

First up, only leave one RAM stick in and see if that helps.
Then try the manufactures drivers from their relevant sites and compare those to Microsoft’s versions through the Windows Updates process.

You could also try and uninstall the latest Windows updates one at a time and any newly installed software you’ve added.

Thank you for your reply Bruce. To be honest, I wouldn't even know where the RAM sticks are kept or how to get to them. I mostly get by on Googling any problems I have, which usually seem to help me out. I will have a look into how to uninstall Windows updates and try to go from there but it sounds like this might be a bit beyond me. I'm on the laptop now, in Safe Mode which seems to work completely fine annoyingly.

Just checked and the last Windows Update I have listed id from the 11th April 2018. The problem only occurred today so wondering if this wouldn't be the case?

SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED.
Is that all the message says, if the problem is software/driver related you will normally get something at the end of the main message, example, in the case of it being a problem with a graphics driver there would be something tagged on the end that would include ati (Radeon) or Nv in the case of Nvidea drivers, if no such info is present there is a high chance it is hardware related and we will need to know the exact model of HP Pavillion notebook it is that you have.
