Hello,
I have a Dell laptop running windows 10 build 1909. Recently updated after the issue of this thread occurred from build 1903. (This didn’t solve the problem).
I use my Ethernet port to connect to devices that have static IP addresses. Everyday I change my static IP address to an address in the range of the device I am connecting to. I use WiFi for my internet connection, so generally do not use dhcp on my Ethernet port.
Two days ago, I changed my static IP address to 192.168.1.200, I tried connecting to a device and could not establish communication. I tried a ping of my laptop IP address and it failed. Usually a quick restart of my laptop solves any connectivity issues, however on this occasion it seems nothing will resolve the issue.
I have browsed several other threads with similar issues and tried many things.
So far, windows has been updated to build 1909, tried many commands such as flush DNS, win sock reset, reset ipv4 / 6, net msg commands, a complete network reset via windows, scanned for malware, used the windows system file checker etc etc, updated Ethernet port driver. Uninstall port driver. Reinstall port driver. Without anything resolving the issue.
Bizarely, I have found that if I set a static IP 192.168.1.200 address, ping myself, it doesn’t work. If I then connect a Ethernet cable between laptop and home router 192.168.0.1, change no settings and then disconnect the cable, I can then ping the static up address I set on the laptop from the laptop itself... 192.168.1.200.
The port works perfectly fine after that until I close or shutdown the laptop, the issue then reoccurs.
I also found a thread that said the issue could be resolved by deleting a registry key for the network settings. This was something like LocalClass/Network and look for a config file via reg edit. However I looked and no config file was stored in the location it suggested. So no changes were made via reg edit.
On one occasion, I noticed when I went to change from dhcp to static, I opened the ipv4 properties page whilst set to dhcp. In the default gateway box, a 192.168.0.1 address was stored in where you would enter an address for the GW but greyed out as in DHCP.
Also, I have no issues changing between dhcp and static IP on the WiFi adapter properties.
Im now at a loss as to what to try to resolve this issue. Any further suggestions would be welcome and thank you in advance.
Kevin.
