Hi i just bought some new speakers (Presonus eris e5) and i hooked them up to my audiointerface (presonus studio 24c) with some guitarcables. Surprise surprise it started humming very loudly like there is a bad ground or something. I just thought it was due to the bad cables but then my brother hooked his computer up to it and had absolutely no problems at all. I then hooked up my laptop and also had no problems at all. I started searching online and couldn't really find an answer to it so i just decided to completely reinstall windows because i already had to do that but that didnt help either. So my question does anyone else have this problem and does anyone know how to solve it? My speakers arent really usable like this.
 
any chance, when hooked up to your PC, the cables are close to something (anything) like another power cord, a power transformer, other cables in general - basically anything that could case electro-magnetic interference?

i had something similar years ago, changed the audio cable to a shielded cable and the problem went away.

I tried holding the audio cables in the air so it didnt touch anything but it did nothing. I also tried just fidgeting with the cables against other cables but the noise stayed exactly the same. Also when i plugged it into my laptop all the cables where in the exact same position and my pc was also powered on and it didnt make the noise.

Also worth noting i think is that my computer keeps disconnecting my audio interface when i dont use it so i have to unplug it and plug it in again when i pause my music for example and want to play it again. With my laptop and also my brothers laptop it does not do this and it just works how it is supposed to work.
 
how are they connected to your PC?
looks they they plug into a mixer and that in turn plugs into your PC?

and I assume whatever connection method you used was the same when testing on those other PCs?

do other speakers suffer the same fate when used on your PC?

They are plugged into my audio interface which then goes to my pc through a usb cable

And yes i used the exact same method to connect it to my other pcs. Also when the usb even touched the usb poort of my computer it already made the noise but just a bit quieter while it wasnt connected.
I also tried touching the case with it but it didnt make a noise but when i touched the io shield it did make the noise but then really really quiet.

I dont know if that had anything to do with it but could that mean its something with the power supply or my mother board. Software isnt it because i completely reset my Windows.

For your last question. I tried and it does give a buzz but it is really subtle and only is present when i fully crank my speakers while my studio monitors could be at least then a quarter of the power and the buzz would already be really loud.

I also tried connecting those different speaker to my phone and cranking it and didnt give the buzz.

Im really sorry for the long reply but as a recap could it be possible that its or my mother board or my powersupply?

My mother board is an gigabyte b320m s2h so its not really high end

Also my powersupply is also not really high end i think. its an riotoro builder edition 600 watt

I could try switching motherboards or psu's with a different pc but i dont know if its useful?
 
while I couldn't rule it out completely, I'd be surprised if it was the mobo.
maybe the PSU but again, wouldn't be the first thing I'd be blaming.
but hey, computers! - nothing can ever be truly ruled out. :)

swapping the PSU would be easy enough to quickly check.
mobo, while easy, is just a lot of painful tasks to go through.

let's get some more skin in the game and see what they can come up with - @PeterOz @Pyro @phillpower2 @Evan Omo @Malnutrition @georgeks

Update:
I tried it with the pc i planned on swapping the parts with and it made the exact same noise.

So what Ive tested now is that it makes the noises when plugged into regular pcs but when i plug it into a laptop it does not make the sound.

I also tried plugging my laptop into the power adapter and plugging it into the same outlet as my pc was in which also had the speakers but it still didnt make the sounds

I also tried plugging my speakers into a different outlet then my pc but it changed nothing. I dont know if its the same power group so i could try another outlet that is definitely in a different group but so far no progress.

Another quick update i just tried plugging it in with another cable this time with the unbalanced rca output and plugged it straight into my pc. It now still made the noise so now i know that it definitely is not my audio interface or the cable

So or both my pcs are broken which i doubt but i also wil not exclude because theyre both very cheap or it has something to do with the power group.
 
changing it all to use the power from another circuit in the house would be a good test.
and something you can try while we wait for the others to chime in.

I tried it but it did nothing so i think i am out of guesses
 
Sorry all the questions are not in 1 post.
Are you using the original USB cable.
The 24 c uses USB C
I am pretty sure your MB does not support USB-C

Do you have any friends you could borrow a power suppl from to test on your computer
