Hope that this is the right place for this. It's me again - the XP dinosaur (now using Opera browser).

This problem has only recently started - and I've no idea why!

Suspect that an automatic update from Adobe Flash may be at the heart of it, though. Suddenly, I can't play video clips (even those I've previously loaded myself) in Facebook. YouTube's OK. I can load, play and otherwise manipulate videos in YouTube and load them into Facebook OK. But they won't play (for me) there although there is no problem for my Facebook audience (apparently) to view them.

Did a bit of Googling and found some refs. to this mainly saying that version 22 of Adobe Flash is best used with Opera. FaceBook help on this subject is as useful as a chocolate fireguard.

You can use the CLIQZ browser on XP.(As of June 2017 support will end for XP sometime later this summer)... Veeg

Rustys. Thanks for the reply. Have tried all of those things. Current version is (was) 26. That has now reinstalled (although I thought I was downloading Version 22!). Also use Firefox, but same thing there.

Which version are you running on both browsers?
Current Version is 26.0.0.137

Have you cleared the Cache and Cookies from them and have you tried running the browsers with out add-ons running (if you have any installed) they may be the cause.

Version 22 is so out of date most if not all website will only run using the latest version of Flash.

Only tried Version 22 because of 'tip' in what appeared to be authoritative site. Something about Opera on XP. I've now updated Opera to latest version, installed Flash Version 26, but still no joy. I'll try the cache and cookies thing and get back to you.

OK. Did all that. Joy of joys, video played. Curses and curses, SECOND time won't play, back to the FaceBook 'Sorry something went wrong' with their totally useless invitation to 'find out more'.

Check your plugins. Although flash is installed, there are 3 settings: Always Activate, Ask to Activate and Never Activate.
Check that yours is not set to Never Activate.

This is the flash for Opera

This is the flash for FF

and should you want to test IE, this is the flash for IE
https://fpdownload.macromedia.com/pub/flashplayer/latest/help/install_flash_player_ax.exe

Thank you. Flash is Activated (Enabled) Don't have all that Activate, Never Activate stuff.

Is this still happening on both browsers?

One more thing to try is to reset the browse and see if that helps. If that does not help then I suggest that you have our security team check the system.

Opera
FireFox

Remove All traces of Flash player from your machine with Geek uninstaller, use force mode.

Then get an older version of Flash Player from here.

Maybe older versions of your browser as welll...

FireFox.
Opera

Hi again, Malnutrition.
Downloaded Geek and removed two versions of Flash Player, but Adobe won't let me download older version. I get a window saying I'm trying to install an older version and wants to take me to installation of latest version.

Just noticed. At top of the page you linked it says 'Archived versions of Adobe Flash no longer available at OldApps.

Did you try this at all and what was the out come?

Retry Having trouble installing Adobe Flash Player? Identify your issue and try the corresponding solution.
On the bottom is the complete install file for Flash player under Still Having Problems

This is the complete install file.

I am using an XP computer. I have installed the latest version of flash for IE and Firefox ESR. The person doesn't need an old unpatched version of flash.

FF ESR that works on XP v 52.2.1 with flash v 26.0.0.137
https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/organizations/
ignore what it says about an organization. You can run it and update it on personal computers.

If you prefer a portable version get it here
https://portableapps.com/apps/internet/firefox-portable-esr
then update it to the latest version.

I'm getting a 404 on the link for ESR
