First of all iam a Linux newbie. I have Linux Mint 17.1
( How do i get latest version of FireFox i have old version 33 )
( When i download updates through ( Down Load Manager ) it takes several hours, and while its updating, you cant do anything on Linux.
It slows way down. )
( My 3rd and final question, when i go to ( Pinterest ) i cant even put anything in search, i dont recognize it, you might say. I cant enter anything in search. )
I no little about Linux.
Thank,s Chuck

Why are you using Mint version 17.1 what happened to version 18.2? That you were using according to this link?
https://pchelpforum.net/t/video.18475/

This still on the thumb drive or did you finally put it onto a system completely?

This is only on a USB thumb drive, its not installed on my laptop. I have Windows 10. The seach part on Pinterest, i figured it out by accident, its messed up, you have to right click then left click to get search.
I did have 18.2 it was so messed up ( Beta ) to. I now have 17.1 on one thumb drive and 17.3 on the other thumb drive, i switch back and forth.
On 17.1 my main concern is older version of FireFox.
On both though, it takes a long time to update, on Update Manager.
Thank,s Chuck

How may updates is it loading through Update Manager and have you configured it to only install 1-2 or 1-5 updates?
Some are unstable and can cause Linux to become unstable.

there are 8 choices for Linux Mint 18.2.
I'd forget the old version you have and create a stick with one of the newer versions, which will not need so many updates.

If you want something light weight select the Xfce desktop instead of Cinnamon, Mate and KDE.

How do i do 1-2 updates? Updates messed things up so bad, i formated the USB and started all over again.
There were 25 updates, or should i completely turn updates off? Thank,s Chuck

You want to keep Linux up to date for the same reasons you keep Windows up to date.

You can take the Tics out for 3-5 on the main Update Manager Screen.
(OR)
Do this so it will only check for and automatically select Level 1-2.

Open Update Manager
Click Edit
Click Preferences
Select the Levels Tab
Leave the Tics in under Safe? and Visible? for Level Description 1 and 2.

Should look similar to this (Mint 17.3) yours may look different.
