Hi, my metabox laptop turns black sometimes on startup. The brand logo shows up at power on, and turns black after that. The laptop is responsive to keys. I also found that I could make it sleep by pressing power button twice or thrice, then when I make it active, the screen is back on again.

This happens only sometimes (maybe once a week or 2).

Thanking all the repliers :)
Max.

Also dwm.exe takes up a lot of resources. I have seen it go to over 1gb in taskmanager. I have tried following the suggestions of using plain wallpaper or normal theme, but it was the same.
What I do is end task from task manager, the refreshed dwm uses low resources. Could this be a reason for the above? But I end task dwm.exe everyday, and the black screen only happens sometimes.

If you leave the black screen does the log in screen appear?
What version of Windows are you running? Is it up to date?
Have you tried updating the graphics card driver?

Previously, I left the black screen for 10 minutes, but it still didn't show anything.
windows 10 pro. Fully up to date.
The graphics card driver seems to be the latest.

This is my driver specs according to Speccy. Do I uninstall both intel and nvidia?

Generic PnP Monitor (1920x1080@60Hz)
Intel UHD Graphics 630 (CLEVO/KAPOK Computer)
2047MB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 (CLEVO/KAPOK Computer)
SLI Disabled

also, is there a way to search for external source to download the drivers? the metabox site is not opening.

Hi, I am trying to backup the image of the windows since DDU says that backup might be necessary, but my 16gb pendrive was still not enough (the backup option in windows). Is there a way to backup a smaller size? or will just a system restore point do? Also are the default options correct? Do I unselect nvidia and AMD specific options here?

You most likely will require a third party imaging software & a 16GB thumb drive won’t be enough to backup Windows.
Those are the settings, the main screen should have a drop down menu or option to uninstall either the Graphic driver (Intel or nVidia) or Audio driver (Intel or nVidia). Choose graphics from the Select device type, then choose Intel from the Select device.

will 32 gb work? And is it necessary to backup? The markets are closed here due to a festival, so will have to order online which will take some time.

How large is the hard drive & how much of the space is used?
Most imaging software requires an external hard drive of at least the same size as the drive containing Windows. Macrium will compress the image by about 60%.
It’s up to you whether you back up or not. I’ve used DDU & never had problems. Ensure system restore is enabled if you don’t have a backup.

Make sure you have the drivers and you may want to turn off the Windows Driver update.

Like Bastet has stated I have also used they software and have never had to preform a restore.

Hi, I have performed the uninstall and reinstall. Now, I just have to see if the black screen continues right?
