Solved Screen connection issues on new PC

Hello,

I got this strange pc screen connection issue that i require assistance in troubleshooting.

I just purchased a new PC and when i boot it and windows has loaded the screen shows a strange view, see below image. Before this i can see the company logo on the screen and things “look” alright at that point during boot.



After 5-7 seconds the screen transitions into the following flimmer


If I unplug the displayport cable BEFORE it transitions into the flimmer and the replug it, the screen turns to normal and everything works as intended.
If I DO NOT unplug and replug before the flimmer, the issue cannot be solved, unplugging and replugging only results in the screen showing “no signal”
If i do nothing after the flimmer appears it holds for about 10 seconds then turns to black and shows “No signal”
Unplugging and replugging after the screen has gone dark results in the "backlight" turning on but no image and after about 10 seconds "no signal" shows up again.


Tried steps of troubleshooting:

• other cables
  • changing to HDMI cable & another displayport cable (same issue)
    
• Other screen
  • Changed to a 27” older screen with HDMI(same issue)
    
• Reinstall windows
  • reinstalled windows from a home-made boot drive as well as from W11 internal restore function
    
• reinstall and change driver versions
  • tried changing and reinstalling driver versions for GPU and Motherboard
    
• Tried other PC to rule out screen issue (works fine with my old PC)

My build:

• Gigabyte Radeon RX 7900 XT GAMING OC
• AMD Ryzen 7 7700X CPU Tray
• Phanteks Glacier One 240M25
• Corsair Vengeance RGB DDR5 5600MHz 32GB
• Kingston M.2 NV2 PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD 2TB
• ASUS TUF Gaming B650-PLUS WIFI Moderkort
• Corsair RMe Series RM750e PSU
• Samsung G8 34" screen

Couple of things going on there;

• Gigabyte Radeon RX 7900 XT GAMING OC
• Corsair RMe Series RM750e PSU

Your PSU does not meet the minimum requirements as stated by you GPU manufacturer here

• AMD Ryzen 7 7700X CPU Tray
• Corsair Vengeance RGB DDR5 5600MHz 32GB

The RAM is not appropriate for your CPU, AMD state here up to 5200MHz/MT/s and if you have EXPO/XMP enabled the RAM will get auto OCd past what the CPU can handle and the PC will become unstable.

As a starting point,disable XMP.

You should also make sure that the Windows Power Plan is set to Balanced and not High Performance or Ryzen Balanced, Ultra and High Performance are a form of overclocking that is known to cause stability and overheating issues, the setting should only be used for gaming type notebooks that have a discrete GPU that needs the extra power.

Goodness gracious, such mistakes have been made, should have read up more to not miss such apparent issues.

I changed the XMP profile to "auto" and manually put the ram speed to 5200Mhz and now i can't recreate the screen issue. Bonus that the PC now boots 50% faster as well. I will also look into getting a stronger PSU for the build.

Easily done when it is something that you don`t do often and the misleading advertising that MB manufacturers use is very misleading, I have some canned ino for this that explains things in layman's terms;

Something to keep in mind for the future, a CPU must be compatible with a MB whereas the RAM has to be compatible with both the CPU and the MB, this because a MB can be compatible with faster CPUs than the one in your list of parts and MB manufacturers often state RAM speeds that far exceed that which any compatible CPU can handle, this is misleading at the least or dishonest at worst.

Short version, it doesn`t matter what your MB manual says it is AMD or Intel that you need to check with when making sure that you don`t waste time and money on RAM that is too fast for your CPU to handle.

How do they get away with it, the max RAM speed is the tested speed and it is up to the purchaser of the RAM to make sure that their CPU can handle the maximum tested speed which in your case would be 5200MT/s when XMP is enabled and not the 5600MHz that was purchased.
