Next time that you need to leave the computer unattended try restarting it in Safe Mode and then leaving it until you get back, if the screen is the same when you return it suggests a hardware issue but if the screen image is normal the issue is 99.99% sure to be software related.
and as a work around until you identify and fix it, turning off all hibernate/sleep/power save options should side step the issue.
