I have ended up with errors. I use Adobe Dreamweaver CS4 and encountered a common problem which involved deleting a file "WinFileCache-3012BA81.dat" from c: program files / adobe / adobe dreamweaver CS4 / en_US / Configuration - which is something I have done before and it worked OK. But this time I could not find the file & path, assuming correctly that the files were hidden. I set the folders to "show hidden files", found the file to delete and completed the task. But I struggled to get the folder setup to work correctly and most of my icons are faded or, as on the desktop, have a little arrows in the bottom LH corner, indicating it links to a file or program. At first I thought they had turned to "Read only" files, but I can open and close and save them. See the image which shows an error when trying to load Dreamweaver "Visual c++ Runtime Library" error. So this is the error I need some help with, and a suggestion as to why icons are faded. Thanks.

Hi @Garbo and welcome to PCHF :)

Please download MiniToolBox and save it to your desktop. Run the program by right clicking on it and selecting Run as administrator. When the program opens select the following boxes:

List content of Hosts
List IP Configuration
List Winsock Entries
List last 10 Event Viewer Errors
List Installed Programs
List Devices (Only Problems)
List Users, Partitions and Memory size

Please post the log in your next reply :)

Update : I entered an incorrect path name - it was C:\Users\MYUSER\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Dreamweaver CS4\en_US\Configuration\WinFileCache-3012BA81.dat

Reboot your machine and then run the AVG removal tool.

AVG will trash your machine, hands down without a doubt and it is likely the cause of your issue(s). Not to mention shady practice by the company. No one should ever use AVG.

You can replace it with One of the following.

SecureAplus.
Sophos Home
Panda Free.

Thanks for your interest in helping. I have rectified the problem. It was quite simple really - I had inadvertently set some folders to "read only" and assume that the program would not run due to that. All OK now.
