For a long time I have been getting these random lag spikes, the pc just hangs for a moment and it can vary for how long but its never for too long. I've noticed in task manager when this does happen 'system' jumps in cpu usage but then drops back down again after it stops. The picture and sound both lag. Generally running is just ffxiv (game), discord, chrome and steam. I've tired reinstalling windows in the past but it carried on happening. This does not always happen and varies how often. I'm not sure what to try, so any help will be appreciated.

Hello r3dmagik,

Download then run Speccy (free) and post the resultant url for us, details here, this will provide us with information about your computer hardware + any software that you have installed that may explain the present issue/s.

Hi r3dmagik. After you reinstalled Windows, did you install all the latest drivers for your hardware devices? Have you overclocked any components?

Did you try updating your motherboards BIOS to the latest version? Does the computer lag even when the system is idle and not running any programs?

I updated some drivers, didn't get round to all of them. Nothing is overclocked. Updated the bios twice in the past to see if it would fix it but to no joy but looks like asus have a new version out again now.

Going to make sure all drivers are up to date and update bios again now. Il see how it is tomorrow

So did them things last night but then decided to do a match on csgo and i started to get a couple of spikes a few rounds in. then the pc just froze kind of, the mouse and keyboard still responded but that was it. So reinstalled windows and did the latest drivers again, so far no lag.

Fingers crossed then (y)

Couple of suggestions for you, create a new system restore point now that the computer is stable, when re-installing any of your previous software such as games etc make a note of it and be sure to create a new system restore before installing any of the said software.

:( just happened but it was like last night when my pc froze. my caps lock and num lock led was the only thing responding on the keyboard. I could tab through programs on the taskbar for abit but then all i could do is move my mouse.

Did you do as suggested in my reply #10 before this latest episode happened.

Ok just happened again now.

Last night running was csgo, firefox, discord and steam. Cannt recall anything else

Tonight. firefox, discord and steam.

I would get these odd snipit buzz sounds to start with, then the pc would feel slugish over time untill it would completely freeze and have a constant buzz.

Did you update your motherboards BIOS to the latest version? Have you tried leaving your computer idling to see if it freezes?

What make and model power supply does your computer have?

Are you installing any programs or games onto your secondary hard drive? Have you tried unplugging your secondary hard drive and just using the SSD to see if the computer still freezes?

Forgot the mention the times it freezes completely, I need to reinstall the wireless driver.

An last night after it did freeze, I turned it on again and 5 min later buzzing sound again but if muted my music the buzzing would stop. Tried many songs ( from YouTube btw).

Yea bios is up to date.

Psu il double check when I get home.

Second hdd has only music on it. I can try without it connected tonight.
