I am unable to download and install the " 2024-25 cumulative update for Windows 10 version 22H2 for x64 systems." I get this error code (0x80070017). Any suggestions?

What have you tried so far?

Have you tried creating another login account and using that to see if that helps?
Is there enough free space on the drive?
If you have a 3rd party security software, try disabling that.

Other windows updates have downloaded and installed without a problem. Yes, I have plenty of space on my hard drive.

1) Let’s show the complete PC specs using Speccy by Piriform.
In Speccy, click File > Publish Snapshot > Copy to Clipboard > Close.
Paste that link into your post.
Is Speccy safe?

2) Let’s list your installed programs using MiniToolBox by FarBar.
In MTB, tick List Installed Programs, click Go then close the program.
A file MTB.txt is created in the same folder, attach that in your post.

Click "file" in Speccy? I have run speccy, but dont see a link to "file". ;How do I attach the mtb.txt file to my post?

Do you have the KB number for that update?

While I see no direct connection with not being able to do that Windows Update, let's clean up and see what happens.

From the MTB file;
  • go to Control Panel, Programs & Features, and uninstall anything starting with Dell
  • also remove the Compatibility Pack for Office 2007
From Speccy
  • uninstall Malwarebytes (it can be re-installed later)
  • check for any newer BIOS version from the Dell website. Use you Service Tag number located on the sticker on the case
Try these from an elevated command prompt;
  • chkdsk c: /r
  • sfc /scannow
  • dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth
  • dism /online /cleanup-image /startcomponentcleanup /resetbase
Run CCleaner (free version) or Glary Disk Cleaner to clean out any crap files from the drive.

Reboot the PC and all network hardware and try again.

Running slow how - startup, opening programs like Word for example, or internet speed?
The first boot or two after running CCleaner will be slower as it cleans out a lot of system caches that Windows has to rebuild.

If that update doesn't install using Windows Updates, have you tried doing an offline install by downloading that update separately from here; https://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/Search.aspx?q=KB5037768

When I right click the file, I don't have a choice to install. I will try one of the other options in the link you sent. Thanks!!

Sorry, I have to put this on hold for the time being. I am getting frustrated with directions, etc. Will try again in a few weeks.

I haven't needed to play with .cab files for ages.
Definitely right clicking and selecting Install was an option under Win7, pretty sure Win10 too, but no, now I'm on Win11, it looks like you need to use the DISM command.

Get back to us when you can.
I reckon if you leave it till the next Patch Tuesday update next month, you'll probably find your Windows updates will work. :)

Problem solved: I have ordered a new computer that runs Windows 11. I hope that will put an end to the slow loading of applications, freeze-ups, etc. So mark me resolved.
