Hi
I have a Toshiba Satellite A200 Laptop.I have had the machine since 2007 or thereabouts. It originally came with OS Vista and as been well looked after and maintained. In fact she is my old lady now and it is sentimentally valued.
About a year or so ago I took the machine to my PC repair shop, just round the corner, from my home.I asked them to install Windows 7 64 bit on the machine, for which they did expertly. Before it was Vista 32 bit.All as been fine and working much cleaner, crisper and better with the OS of Windows 7 installed.
But all of a sudden,in the last couple of days I am getting a blue screen error and the machine is crashing, rebooting and coming back to the sign on screen. The error,as in the thread title,is Power State Drive Failure.I haven't made any drastic changes I can think of that can lead me to a reason and solution.
Unfortunately I don't know what is causing this issue,so any help and advice, would be well appreciated.
By the way I have been on this site before and contributed. For some reason my noted down credentials were not Identified,so I had to rejoin(same name)
Thanks for any help!!

Whilst we are waiting for the experts to help you, let me explain why you were not recognized. PCHF is a new forum born after the demise of the old one of a similar name. Welcome to the new and better PCHF:)

Hi and thanks all for your replies.Apologies also for the late reply from me.
So regarding the membership.I noticed 6 months ago?I clicked the PC Help Forum link in my fave/bookmarks and it went to an empty web page.So I googles PC Help Forum and it brought me back here.I presume my old details were lost, due to the rebuild of this terrific site?
On the drivers, when I took the laptop to my local PC repair shop,I presumed they knew there stuff and whilst changing the OS from Vista to Windows 7,they also put in the relevant up to date drivers?
Regarding my model it is,according to DX Diag- Toshiba Satellite A200 (Attached DX Diag)
As mentioned before,it is an old machine but as been well maintained and looked after.I don't know if this is worth mentioning, but the battery is not working on the laptop, so I have it plugged in permanently, just like a desktop. On the bottom task bar the battery charging Icon states 'Plugged in and not charging' 0% available.
Thanks all for your invaluable help !!

Just to add.I have tried a start repair and system restore.I have tried Advanced system care and driver booster,to update drivers.

If you turn the laptop over, is there a sticker that says what the entre model number of the laptop is instead of just being a Toshiba Satellite A200? I want to find the driver page for you to update your device drivers but I can't do that until I know the full model of the system.

Hello again Tinman, and sorry to butt in again but may I strongly urge you to remove both Advanced System Care and Driver Booster. The author of these apps no longer enjoys a satisfactory reputation. Use Revo or Geek uninstaller to rid yourself of this xxxxxxxxxxx. You should ONLY EVER get your drivers from the manufacturer of your hardware's site.
Evan will point you in the right direction once you give him the info requested:)

Apologies again for the late reply. But thanks all
Thanks gus for the tip.I have(since using Adv System Care and Driver Boost)been told that those programes are, let's say,a little bad on rep.So yes I will uninstall and not use again. Thanks for the heads up on Revo and Geek uninstaller. Will check them out.You are spot on and correct about getting drivers from the manufacturers website.I should slap myself in the face, because I should know better.
Evan thanks for your invaluable help.I have turned my laptop over and the model details are Toshiba Sattelite A200- PSAECE-01F00JEN
Just another note.I have been told that my Bios could be old and need updating.Could you point me towards the correct Bios update and how to do it.Or is it something I should leave to a PC expert?
Thanks all again !

EDIT- So just been to toshiba website and bios update page.Found the correct bios, matching the sticker info on my laptop PSAECE but it states that it is only for OS Vista.Of course my OS as ben upgraded to Win 7. Mmm not sure ?

Yeah best wait on that Bio's update until you hear from the other guys.

Yes, that site appears correct. Interesting how you need to choose the Archive category in order to choose the model of your laptop.

Go ahead and download and update your systems device drivers including the BIOS from this link, http://www.toshiba.co.uk/support/drivers/

You should install the chipset, audio, network, video, touchpad, and BIOS updates for the system. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Thanks Evan.
Will have a good look into this and report back. Will be delayed on that,as I am away on Easter Vacation. So will A.S.A.P look at my next move.
If I have any issues and questions,I will get back to you.
Only thing that is concerning me is do I go for drivers/updates for Windows 7 64 bit OS or Vista 32 bit.As the machine as changed to Windows 7 64 bit. When I drop the boxes down and search on the Toshiba links the PSAEC doesn't match with Windows 7 drivers ? It doesn't find anything and seems to want me to go for Windows Vista 32 bit(my old OS),to match the PSAEC.
Thanks again :)

Hi people.
Apologies for the delay in reply.
Please close this thread.I decided to go back to my PC repair man, just around the corner from me,who Installed Windows 7 OS originally.
He re-installed the Windows 7 OS for me at a low price and all is fine now.
He thought it may have been a virus? Or something to do with the memory sticks Ram or something. When he tested them they were faulty at one point but fine the next?Even after a clean?
Anyway all is good now and may I thank everybody, at this fine forum, lot's of thanks for there help and assistance !!!!!!!!
