Hello,

Since sisters PC is struggling to even run youtube, which it what she uses it for, she asked me to fix it.
The PC has an AMD Athlon 2 X2 2015
a Geforce 750Ti
and 8 gb DDr3 RAM.
While watching a Video the CPU is constantly at 100%.
Could someone please tell me what I should Upgrade it to.

Do you mean what parts can you upgrade in the present computer or are you looking for a whole new computer.

The present CPU and motherboard are dated technology so any upgrade path will be very limited to none.

We could if you like try and find out why the computer is having the present issues,

I was thinking of upgrading, but if there would be another way of fixing the issue I would of course prefer that (saving money)
 
Can you post the brand and model name or number of the power supply (PSU).

Download then run Speccy (free) and post the resultant url for us, details here, this will provide us with information about your computer hardware + any software that you have installed that may explain the present issue/s.


To publish a Speccy profile to the Web:

In Speccy, click File, and then click Publish Snapshot.

In the Publish Snapshot dialog box, click Yes to enable Speccy to proceed.

Speccy publishes the profile and displays a second Publish Snapshot. You can open the URL in your default browser, copy it to the clipboard, or close the dialog box.

Can I ask that you do not quote every reply, it really does not help any and just makes for unnecessary reading, thanks.

Couple of things of note in Speccy but not seeing anything that would cause 100% CPU usage, start with the basics first, AVG is installed when there is no need for it, it is a known resource hog and no longer the AV that it was see canned info below.

The PSU is not a good one, it is labelled as being 500W but can only in fact produce 360W.

Windows 8, 8.1 and 10 come with an improved Windows Defender, it offers the same real-time anti-virus/anti-malware protection as Microsoft Security Essentials. Windows Defender also shares the same malware signature definitions as Microsoft Security Essentials, and Forefront Endpoint Protection. Technically, Microsoft Security Essentials has not been renamed Windows Defender, or combined with it in Windows 8, 8.1 and 10.

Having more than one AV installed on your computer is bad, it will slow down the computer, cause internet connection problems and leave you with no AV protection at all if they cancel each other out as they fight for resources.

If any AV product that you have is a paid for version you should always make sure that you have a copy of the product key kept somewhere safe just in case you ever wish to reinstall it.

How to uninstall AVG here

Once AVG has been correctly uninstalled, check to see if Windows Defender has auto enabled and allow it to update and carry out a full scan of your computer, restart the computer see how things go then post back with an update for us.
 
I uninstalled it and now Videos can be played.
The CPU now goes up to 70% only sometimes reaching 90 - 100%.
For now it should be fine for her.

The other thing that I noticed in Speccy was that there is 8GB of RAM showing but it is only working in single channel mode, this means that the RAM is only working at half speed and memory usage is a lot higher that it should be.

Can you check the MB here and let us know if it is the same board as what you are working with + let us know of you have one or two sticks of RAM.

Thanks, reason why I asked is because the MB specs say 8GB of RAM is the max for the board which would normally be 2 Xs 4GB sticks + if you check the MBs memory QVL at the link there are no 8GB sticks of RAM on the list.

A real big improvement would be to add a second stick of RAM to get the dual channel going, increase the speed of the RAM, allow more tabs to be open and lessen the load on the CPU.
 
I do have two hynix 2gb 2rx8 pc3-10600u-9-10-b0
ram sticks would it be better to use those? or should I buy 2x4 gb sticks?
 
I would try adding just the one 2GB stick to the 8GB stick to see if it still works, 10GB is an odd amount of RAM to have but who cares if it improves things, no point in adding the two sticks as it would go back into single channel mode.
 
Can you post an updated Speccy url for us so we can make sure that things are running as they should be.
