Pc turns on but doesn't display anything

Hello, I've had my pc for 4-5 years now and I built it myself and have had no issues with it until a couple days ago. I was installing new fans and everything was working fine until.i tried to start it up again. I undid the new instillation and went back to my old fans but still no joy. I thought it could have been the power supply and I may have over did it so I got a new one which could handle more watts. After installing that I still have no joy. I have checked all the wiring internally to see if I could have knocked anything loose but everything is in fine it seems. I run a gtx 1080, 16gb corsair ram, intel i7 and the power supply I previously had was a evea 700b and the new one is a corsair tx850m. Let me know if any other information is needed.

I also noticed that my gpu fans wiggle as if they are trying to start but then stop after a couple of seconds. I haven't noticed that before if that is any help.

Have you tried/checked the following;

The CPU cooling fan is securely connected to the correct header on the MB.

Reseating the RAM.

If you have more than one stick of RAM trying one stick at a time.

Removing the add on GPU and connecting the screen to a video port on the MB, we know you have an i7 CPU but not what motherboard so you may or may not have this option.

Pulling the CMOS battery from the MB and then putting it back in after ten minutes or so.

Something that is often overlooked, be sure to have a keyboard connected when troubleshooting.

I did the above and nothing yet. Usb sockets aren't working so keyboard and mouse aren't connected. My MB is Msi z370 pc pro
 
The monitors say no hdmi cable is connected when there is one. I tested them on a tv and they do work
 
Not looking good and based on the behaviour that you describe a system short is a strong possibility :(

Can I ask how it has been determined that the USB ports are not working.

The USB 3.0 ports on a MB do not work on boot as the BIOS does not have any drivers for them and that is why the black USB 2.0 type ports which the BIOS does have drivers for should be used.

Edit to add: Scrap that, just seen them, can you let us know the full CPU details instead.
 
I tried all usb ports just to see if a light would come on a usb or mouse and nothing. Does a system short mean I'll have to replace the motherboard?
 
If the board has been shorted out based on what you describe the answer would be yes I`m afraid. I would suggest doing a bare-bones set up before replacing the board though.

Okay, barebones as in take everything out of the case and basically rebuild it outside of the case? If so I tried this earlier
 
Ok, thanks for your help. I'll get a new one ordered and let you know once installed and hopefully the issue will be resolved then.

Be sure to do a barebones outside of the case first when you get the new board.
