So I recently bought parts for a new build but having some problems with the boot up/setup.

I got all components installed in the case and the initial start up displayed onto the monitor but would not go into the BIOS update process and other first boot up procedures. I turned off the pc and checked wiring and cable connectors and attempted to boot up again. Now whenever I turn the pc on it goes on an infinite loop of attempting to turn on (Cpu cooler, case fans, gpu fan all try to start and I can visibly see them trying to spin and get going) However as soon as the pc starts to try and turn on it makes a single click sound and turns off (Turns off within 1 second of pc trying to turn on) This goes on infinitely, on and off with that same single click sound. Nothing displays on the monitor and the pc fails to boot up. I have to manually shut off the power supply or unplug it to stop the on/off loop.

Note: My motherboard has LED lights and these are on when the power supply is plugged in before I ever hit the power on button to attempt the start up. My best guess is that the psu may be the issue but I'm unsure. Any help or tips here would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

This could be the PSU, or it could be a cpu heat issue. Did you take any plastic covering off the cpu and did you apply heat sink paste appropriately?

I believe I've installed the cpu correctly. This is the 3rd pc i've built (Each with there own set of problems) But I don't think its a heat issue, however i did not apply any of the heat sink paste that came with the cpu cooler. From what I looked up I did not see it as required...I could be wrong though. I'm sure though that i've removed any and all plastic wraps/covers from cpu & cpu cooler before installing them into the motherboard.
 
I have yet to see a cooler that didn't require paste. Some come with it pre-applied, some you must apply it. If there is no thermal connection between the cpu and the cooler, the system will shut down immediately because the cpu instantly gets hot.

Ok I'm going to head home on my lunch break and try to fix the cpu/cpu cooler connection and will try to boot up again. i'll let you know if it works. Thanks Bill1

Alright, so just now I went home and took out the cpu cooler and the cpu. I made sure the cpu was positioned correctly and secured and then i applied the paste before attaching the cpu cooler again. I plugged the power supply in and let it sit open before trying to turn power on to the pc. When i hit the power button unfortunately the same loop of on and off again happened.

I'm not sure what other issues it could be besides the psu. The lights of the motherboard turn on, and the case fans, cpu cooler fan, and graphics card fan all start but then stop isntantly. Making the same click noise as before. Also the psu fan shakes slightly before stopping as well. So not sure where the error is coming from now.
 
Ok, Thanks for that. The paste was needed regardless. It could well be the PSU, they have been known to be DOA. The other possibility is a bent pin or pins on the M/B.
Or, the M/B is shorting out against the case. You did use the spacers when mounting the board? Did you notice anything on the back of the board that might be contacting with the case?
So what are the options, the easiest is to take the PSU to a shop and have it tested. The other is to try another PSU.

I have a new PSU coming in the mail tomorrow that i can try to see if that is the cause of the pc not booting up.

Corsair RMx Series, RM850x, 850W, Fully Modular Power Supply, 80+ Gold Certified

I'm not sure on the motherboard...i'm pretty sure none of the pins are bent. As far as it shorting out from contacting with the case i'm not sure again, i'll check the motherboard this evening after work and see if everything is set in place correctly and not coming into contact with the case. I suppose i can try to turn the computer on without it inside of the case to see if that starts up. I'll update you later on if that works or not.

I hope it's not the motherboard but otherwise tomorrow evening I can find out if it's the PSU that is the problem.
 
Is the 12v ATX connector plugged into the top of your Motherboard?
What's written on the board. where you plugged in the cooler fan?
Pretty confident, you may have bent pins by now. You need a shop to check this properly for you.
Undo all the motherboard retaining screws, place some cardboard between the motherboard and case, and see if it boots.
A riser in the wrong place could well cause a short, as @Bill1 suggested.
Edit to Add.
On that Power Supply, is the "Eco Switch" On or off?

Update: So I was able to get the computer to boot up and stay on and I was able to get into BIOS utility screen. I ended up pulling the components out of the case and connected everything with the exception of the HDD and optical drive. The pc booted up and after a reset and plugging optical drive and HDD back in I was able to start downloading operating system and drivers, etc..

I'll let you guys know should any other issues pop up. But as for now seems to be working as intended. Thanks for all the help!
 
Did you find the problem causing this. Was there a riser or something shorting out the motherboard?
Would be interested where the problem was.:)

I'm a bit unsure what the main issue was with booting up. I think it may have been the motherboard shorting out against the computer case. There is a small rod the extends from the middle of the case thru the center hole of the mb...Do you think that is something that should be removed before putting the mb back into the case or if this could even be the cause of the mb shorting out? I figured since the mb had its lights coming on, etc.. that the problem was from elsewhere.

I should note also, when putting the mb into the case it seemed like i had to push a little hard to get the screws to the holes that line up with my mb...idk if this is just an issue of the case not properly compatible with my mb or if i needed longer screws then what was provided or if that rod in the middle hole of mb coming from the computer case was restricting it.
 
Thanks for getting back to us. The screws are quite short, that screw into the risers.
This rod you are talking about has me concerned.
Is it possible to take a photo, please, so we can identify?

Ok so in the pic above, that small rod to the right lines up with the center hole of my mb

ive checked the rod and it's tight in there, i would need plyers to be able to loosen in from its spot.
 
I can't tell the height, however doesn't look as high as a riser.
That pin would have to be removed and a riser screwed in it's place.
Are you trying to screw the motherboard to the case without any risers.
