Hi,

I have recently had exhausting problems with my computer freezing during gameplay - even games that are not resource intensive at all.
I posted my full specs at the bottom.

I have already attempted the following:
Ran a clean reinstall of windows which changed absolutely nothing
Windows Memory Diagnostic Tool - no errors found, also ran memtest86 via GRUB, which returned no errors
ran chkdsk - no errors found
ran an sfc scan - no errors found
ran the DISM cleanup without results
updated Windows to the newest release
updated my graphics card drivers
Ran CPU and GPU benchmarks and observed no overheating
Plugged my GPU into the second PCIe slot
cleaned all hardware parts of dust and swapped the SATA cable for the SSD

My only lead was that my SSD read/write speeds seemed really low, so I enabled RAPID mode to combat that, but that has also not helped.
The problems disappeared after my initial troubleshooting for around two months and are now back for no reason that is apparent to me.

Motherboard - ASRock B450 Pro4
SSD - Samsung SSD 860 QVO 1TB
HDD (only non-system data like documents on there) - WDC WD10JPCX-24UE4T0
GPU - Radeon RX580
CPU - Ryzen 7 2700
Memory - DDR4-2400 16GB Corsair Vengeance LPX
PSU - 500 Watt be quiet! System Power 9 Non-Modular 80+ Bronze
 
It’s most likely the bug which was introduced with the April cumulative update which affected the framerate of games, you should run Windows update which will remove the update or manually uninstall it.

Thanks for your reply.
I've done a bit of googling and have then uninstalled Windows Update KB5001330.
Unfortunately, that did not seem to fix the issue at all. Do you maybe know more about the update number that is causing the problems?
I'm even willing to replace hardware if I can definitely determine one part to be the cause of all this, but currently I'm quite unsure still.

It’s the KB5000842 & KB5001330 which is the problem. Microsoft state they’ve fixed it by removing it from users’ PCs.
 
I think you need a new power supply
You only have a 500W Bronze which I believe is only an entry level PSU.
Your Graphics card needs 500W Click On Me so you have nothing left for the rest of your computer.You need a better PSU in my opinion.
Let's ask @phillpower2 for his opinion He is the PSU expert and might be able to recommend what you need
 
The PSU is only intended for entry level PCs with integrated graphics or at most the least demanding of add on GPU.

I can also see a problem with your RAM, Ryzen CPUs are notorious for not liking slow memory and you having 2400 as opposed to 2933MHz RAM will be bottlenecking the processor.

Hi all,

Thank you for your input.
I seem to have (temporarily) fixed the issue by cleaning my PSU's dust filter.
However, I am definitely ready to replace my PSU if it is not suitable for the rest of my parts. Do you happen to have a good recommendation?
Would you say that upgrading my RAM is necessary?

The games I was playing that were freezing were League of Legends' TFT, MtG Arena and Northgard's Multiplayer mode.

Hello Paul,

Honest answer is that if you can keep the PC going as it is I would do so, the GPU may be a four year old model but it is still quite high end and requires good, clean and stable power from the PSU, only being Bronze efficiency rated means the insides of the PSU will get hot under load and the dust filter being blocked was obviously aggravating things enough to cause issues, spending money on older tech is not wise imo, keep the dust filter clean and hope that it gets you by until hardware prices come down again.

As long as things keep working now, I'll chill with the replacements and check back when prices have gone down again.
