Hello,

I've been having an issue recently with my pc. The issue is that randomly my PC will freeze and my displays will go either black or grey and make a buzzing noise. My display cuts off and my pc becomes unusable and has to be turned off via the power button. My motherboard has been replaced so I'm thinking it could be a GPU issue but i'm not 100% sure. My gpu driver is also up to date.

I checked my reliability section and got error code "LiveKernelEvent 141"

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I don't want to send my GPU back to get it looked at incase I'm assuming wrong.

Hello ElderlyApe,

Forgot to add specs:

AUROS B450 Elite motherboard
Ryzen 5 2600
Sapphire Radeon RX Vega 56
Kingston SSD 1400 480GB
Seagate ST2000DM008 HDD 2TB
Corsair vengeance DDR4 16GB
You have missed the most important of all, can you post the brand and model name or number of the PSU for us.

Tip
Aware that you forgot to include your specs but something to keep in mind for the future, if using a computer and not a mobile phone, please avoid adding multiple posts while waiting for us to reply to your OP, edit your last reply or opening post to include anything that you wish to add, when viewing the boards members/staff will always check out an OP that has no replies, if you reply to your own OP it can appear to others that you are already being assisted and your request for help could be overlooked, something that none of us want.

You need a better PSU, a much better PSU in fact, Corsair make some very good PSUs but they are only any good when used for their intended purpose, VS = Value Series which are made to a lower spec such as weaker capacitors and thinner wire and Corsair recommend that they only be used for entry level desktops as used in schools or offices.

Depending on which version of the Sapphire Radeon RX Vega 56 it is that you have, for the stock HBM2 you need a quality brand 650W Gold efficiency rated PSU but if you have the Pulse HBM2 version you need a 750W Gold efficiency rated PSU and likewise only from a good brand.

Yeah I have the pulse HBM2. I’ve been using this PSU since I built my pc which was like 6 months ago and never had any problems up until now. It also said on pcpartpicker that it was compatible and no issues were found.

Sapphire who you should be taking notice of clearly say 750W if you check the specs here

The system will sometimes work with a PSU but all that happens over time is the hardware gets damaged and the GPU being the most power hungry suffer the most and is the first to start to fail.

Fwiw, the VS range make category C & D on the PSU tier lists here with cat D being described as Potentially dangerous, but only in specific situations

Okay thank you very much for your help. I’ll get a better PSU and hopefully no damage has been done to the GPU

I’ve purchased this and it arrives on Tuesday.
How did you manage that, both the 750 and 850 RM are sold out everywhere that I checked and the Corsair RMx White (2018) 750 W 80+ Gold that I suggested is only available direct from Corsair.

Couple of questions if I may;

The issue is that randomly my PC will freeze and my displays will go either black or grey and make a buzzing noise.
Did the same thing happen as what you described in your OP.

How long after fitting the new PSU did it happen.

What was the computer being used for when this latest issue happened.

Yeah the same thing is happening as before. Erm I’d say about 4-5 hours after happening. It’s difficult to replicate as it just happens randomly. I’m thinking it could be my GPU as I’ve changed the motherboard and PSU. I am getting a RMA for the gpu so hopefully the issue we be solved
