Hi guys,
My friend asked me to help when his PC suddenly stopped playing sound and the speaker icon showed a red X and says no speaker plugged in. So I checked the drivers in device manager and although not showing errors I uninstalled and re-installed but still have the no speakers plugged message. I've also stopped and re-started the windows audio service.
In control panel I found the Realtek audio manager and if I click disable front headphone detection I don't get the red X or the error message but still no sound.
We've tried a different set of speakers too but didn't work.

System is Windows 10 Version 1903, 64bit, 4GB RAM

Can anyone help please?

Hello

Have you tried un-plugging speaker from the port and re-plugging it back in? Also sometimes just a little twist on the speaker plug while it's in the speaker port works.. Does the audio work when you restart your pc? Have you done or had any updates from Windows lately?

and just to cross the dumb things off the list...
  • make sure they are getting power
  • turned on at the wall
  • turned on at the speakers
  • turned up
  • not muted
  • are set as the default playing device
  • are in the green back port or the headphone front port
