Hi guys, Dont know if anyone can help me. I have upgraded my system about a month ago and have been having an issue with my processor overheating. I am using a Noctua dh15 cooler with 1 fan, the coolant i am using is the arctic mx-4. my pc sits at about 40-50 while idle but when i start playing games like cod for a few hours my pc starts to get extremely hot to the point where my games start to freeze for a few seconds. I have tested with the wraith cooler and the same issue happens... the temps did drop when i changed from the wraith to the noctua but it still is an issue? i havent done any OC, everything is standard besides from having xmp on in bios settings.

I am really not sure what else to do.. my case is the corsair 4000d with 6x corsair ll120 fans the 3 in front pulling air in and the top and back out. my pc is not on the ground, its on my table with enough room on either side for air flow. my other pc parts are an rtx 3060, on a gigabyte x570 gaming x mobo, and a crucial 1tb m.2. 16gb corsair vengeance 3600.

Any advice will be appreciated, i don't know what my options are going to be but would like to stay away from water cooling if possible because i have never used it.

Hello Chadelz,

Can you post the brand and model name or number of the power supply (PSU).

Download then run Speccy (free) and post the resultant url for us, details here, this will provide us with information about your computer hardware + any software that you have installed that may explain the present issue/s.

To publish a Speccy profile to the Web:

In Speccy, click File, and then click Publish Snapshot.

In the Publish Snapshot dialog box, click Yes to enable Speccy to proceed.

Speccy publishes the profile and displays a second Publish Snapshot. You can open the URL in your default browser, copy it to the clipboard, or close the dialog box.

We need the model name or number so we can check the spec and the age, 750W Gold sounds great but not when you consider that Corsair made such a unit that only had a three year warranty and I wouldn't recommend such a PSU be used in your rig.

Couple of things of note in Speccy;

Power Profile
Active power scheme: High performance

Change the Windows Power Plan to Balanced, Ultra and High Performance are a form of overclocking that is known to cause stability and overheating issues, the setting should only be used for gaming type notebooks that have a discrete GPU that needs the extra power.

You are missing important BIOS updates, two of which are important, one for Ryzen 5000 CPUs performance and one to address security vulnerabilities.

Partition 2
Partition ID: Disk #0, Partition #2
Disk Letter: D:
File System: NTFS
Volume Serial Number: 2ED84E13
Size: 930 GB
Used Space: 872 GB (93%)
Free Space: 57 GB (7%)

For Windows to be able to run efficiently and to be able to update you need to have between 20 and 25% of the partition or drive available on a HDD and an SSD between 10 and 15% as free storage space at all times, if you don`t you risk Windows becoming corrupt or not being able to update which puts you at risk of malware attack.

Data only storage devices should not be allowed to get any lower than 10% of free storage space of the full capacity of the drive/partition on the drive, this also to avoid data corruption.

Please note that storage devices can physically fail if the amount of free storage space is allowed to drop below the required 10 or 20/25% minimum.

I have changed my power plan to balanced. The PSU is a 750w Corsair CP-9020131 TXM series ATX/EPS Semi-Modular 80 PLUS Gold, I bought it on the 22nd March 2022. As for the bios, I have never in my life updated one and I have been gaming for 15 years, don't know how to. With regards to the HDD space, I never knew that was a thing so will remove some things to free up space.

PSU is adequate for the build so not likely to be causing any overheating.

Updating the BIOS is normally a last resort but not when you see messages like the one below;

• Major vulnerabilities updates, customers are strongly encouraged to update to this release at the earliest.

If not comfortable with updating the BIOS, see how things go after changing the Windows Power Plan and freeing up the required space on partition D:, if still having problems, get a local tech to update the BIOS for you.

I have changed the plan, Freed up space and now just updated my bios only up to the version that you mentioned about the security which should include the 5000 series performance update since that one is lower. the bios version i updated to is F36. hopefully that will fix my issue that im having, if it does and you dont hear back from me then thanks :)
