Hello everyone.
Problem with RAM replacement (laptop)
After I installed max memory every few minutes pc goes black (as if there was not enough power) and restarted automatically. When the charger is not connected it works well on battery and let me start and play games (connecting power cord midgame without problems)... but if I turn of the game, it goes off and on again.
I have changed the ram positions and made sure that they are well connected.
I tried "win.memory diagnostic" and while the battery lasted (til about 57% of diagnostics), it showed "no problem found" and when I tried to connect the charger - it goes off.
I replaced the old part back and the problem was gone.
MSI Thin GF63 12VF (nothing down/overclocked)
https://www.msi.com/Laptop/Thin-GF63-12VX/Specification
new RAM Kingston Impact 2 x 32 DDR4 3200 KF432S20IBK2/64
stock RAM 2x8 ddr4 3200

Does anyone have any ideas on how I can get the RAM working, which is compatible according to all the specs?

Hello AleksRC,

With the original RAM in the notebook can you do the below for us;

Download then run Speccy ( free ) and post the resultant url for us, details here, this will provide us with information about your computer hardware + any software that you have installed that may explain the present issue/s.

To publish a Speccy profile to the Web:

In Speccy, click File, and then click Publish Snapshot.

In the Publish Snapshot dialog box, click Yes to enable Speccy to proceed.

Speccy publishes the profile and displays a second Publish Snapshot. You can open the URL in your default browser, copy it to the clipboard, or close the dialog box.

Thanks for the url, cou[le of problems there with the main one being that you have run the program with the new RAM and not the original as was requested, there was a particular reason why you were asked to do this but no biggie as the next suggestion would have been to swap the RAM and post a new Speccy url.

Can you put the original RAM back in, run Speccy and then post the new url for us.

Thanks, you have confirmed what I was suspecting in that you have two different specs of RAM, your new RAM is XMP spec whereas the original is not and it can achieve 1600MHz without any OC.

Couple of other things to mention, are you having trouble updating Windows and when you are gaming or watching videos your Windows Power Plan must be set to High Performance and the notebook be powered from the wall socket, the discrete GPU will not get enough power otherwise.

...ok... this is a bit incomprehensible to me... can it work normally? I tried, as someone suggested, to pull out the CMOS battery for half an hour so that the machine would "forget" the old memory settings (software is not my area). I'll check the power plan.

It's strange that the control panel doesn't even let you choose a power plan other than "balanced" despite the fact that the power mode settings are set to "best performance". Restarting didn't change anything and Speccy still shows "balanced".

I'm slowly educating myself. XMP memory must be enabled in the bios. My bios doesn't have an "xmp" option but it allows you to manually set speeds. This video has the same bios as my computer and as I understand it, "gear ratio 1" (22:07) is the same as enabling xmp?

googled that. looks like they found solution

Not how it should be done and especially when the other computer is a Dell, if you end up bricking your computer who are you going to hold responsible.

If you want to do stuff on your own let us know and we will put your thread on hold until you are done, we will not though continue support if you are not 100% sticking with it.

Thank you for your understanding.

I'm not doing anything myself at first. I'm just trying to understand the principles.

Sorry but not getting into a debate but posts #10 and #11 have nothing to do with anything suggested here.

We are more than happy to help but not when a member follows someone else's suggestion and screws something up.

I'm not arguing and haven't done anything. I'm rather asking for an opinion (can't choose a power plan). I brought the video link to show an identical BIOS version

If the MSI BIOS will not let you change the Power Plan it means that their own software is meant to make the switch when you put the computer under load, having the notebook connected to and using the mains power still applies.

An example of the spec of RAM that would have been more appropriate here
