Hi everybody, i'm new to the forum. As title says, i got a problem with an old school configuration. I got an ASUS P5KPL-AM EPU motherboard, temporarily equipped with a 512mb pc2-4200u RAM chip. Today i got the q6600 CPU that i had ordered, and i noticed from the start some strange things. CPU looks like it's been dropped because it has a mark on the corner, and the IHS got some strange marks on the top, like dried thermal paste, but it didn't go away even using alcohol. I removed the old Pentium 4 that i used temporarily while waiting for the q6600, and i put the new cpu in the socket. After plugging all the things up, i powered up the pc, but i didn't obtain any image on the monitor. So i plugged a mobo speaker, and it gave me 1 long beep, and 2 short beeps followed by a pause, then repeated. From the ASUS website, looks like it's a memory problem, so i reseated the ram like 5 times but without luck. With the Pentium 4, it works fine. So, is it a CPU or a RAM problem?
