I am in the process of upgrading an old mining rig into a gaming rig. Currently the cards are Frankensteind onto some dowels suspended over a plastic crate:

The hard to fit into a normal case parts are:

4x SAPPHIRE TRI-X OC 100362-2SR Radeon R9 290 4GB 512-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0

Rosewill HERCULES-1600S, 1600W Modular Power Supply, Continuous @ 50 degree C, 80 PLUS GOLD Certified, SLI & CrossFire ..

My question is whether anyone knows of a modular open air tech/test type station that would work as the ones I've found expect you to be able to fit the gpu's on the motherboard.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi there mlhyer and welcome to PCHF :)

The thing about using 4 R9s is that they generate a lot of heat, and sometimes air can't remove enough heat in time to keep them cool. That's why some people prefer liquid or blower cooling.

I'll see if I can't come across something for you :)

I appreciate your reply and willingness to help. The nice thing about the TRI-X version is that it has three fans on each card. It seemed to stay at a good temp even while running near 100℅.

As for the cases, it seems that all the open air tech stations expect you to be able to attach the card directly to the motherboard.
