Hi,

I have a PC that was working fine with the exception of powering off and restarting sometimes for seemingly go reason...This was fine as it wasn't that regular but now ever since plugging in something extra into my Belkin surgemaster extension lead the PC cut out completely and wont even turn on anymore. Any ideas?

Specs:
OS: Windows 7
PSU: 600w Coolermaster RS 600 ACAB L3
CPU: Intel Pentium i3 I believe
Graphics card: Nvidia GeForce Go (6600 model I think)
Motherboard: ASRock H61 Pro BTC

dead/faulty powerboard?
has the Belkin got a reset switch?
is that 'extra thing' drawing too much current?
have you tried changing powerboards or wall sockets and seeing if that helps?
does anything plugged into that Belkin lead work?

The Belkin works fine with PS4, MAC and TV plugged in, don't think it's a specific thing drawing too much current as plugged different things into Belkin and it's tripped the electrics before sometimes... There is no reset switch on it and it has power light on it working and another light that says protected. I have plugged the PC into regular wall socket and it still doesn't power on.

This may sound silly, but seen it happen.
You plugged it into the wall and turned it on, did you turn the Power supply on as well.?

so it sounds like something has died.
do you get any noise or lights at all to indicate any sort of activity?
no noise or lights, nothing at all, just doesn't power on, gonna do the psu test today or tomorrow.

i have done the psu paperclip test suggested near the end of the thread and the psu works fine. I have also cleaned and reapplied the thermal paste for the CPU and added a new fan. The PC actually starts for like 8 seconds but then powers off but no picture comes up on the monitor at all, then this sequence keeps repeating.

Hi Pagi. Have you tested the system with just one stick of RAM installed? Have you tried taking out the NVIDIA video card and using the onboard motherboard video? Have you cleared the BIOS settings on the board?

Do you have another power supply that you can test with to rule out that the power supply could be the culprit?
