This is a 2 part question,s. I have 2 screen shots that better explains.
( computer info ) Linux Mint Cinnamon 17.1, i have many distro,s 17.3- 18-18.1 on USB, not installed, my main OS is Windows 10
1- question, what am i concerned with on ( Psensor ) as far to much heat?
2- question, each time i bootup my desktop is always messed up. Its not uncommon to have 2 or 3 icons together, then have to separate them. I did right click on desktop and made sure, ( was checked, keep aligned ) still the same thing.
All my distro,s do exactly the same on question 2. Iam still a newbie with Linux, i will be for a long time.

Sorry I don't run any version of Mint so I can't help with that distro. You did enable persistence when you made the stick, correct?

I also don't have and don't plan to have Windows 10 on any computer.

Try a distro besides Mint and see if the same thing happens. I like LXlE Desktop

If it does the same thing, we can rule out the distro as the cause.

I run lots of live distros and don't have any problem with the icons moving around.
 
What is your main purpose to run Linux?

I have done installs of Linux just like I would a HDD and have never had any of these issues. Now that is not to say that by tweaking it and trial and error that I have not redone them a few times.

That being said have you gone through all of you system settings and made sure they were set correctly?

Are all of the updates and patches installed?

As far as the temps it is a USB drive there are no fans to cool it so the temp for the drive that it is reading that Linux is installed on will be a touch warm.

I run many differant live versions of Linux, all do the same thing, desktop icons are always moved around or are bunched up. My intensions after i learn Linux is to install it. I personally dont like Windows 10 at all. I very rarely even get on Windows. I just search, email, you tube the basics on Linux. I dont play any games on Windows 10. To me Windows has to many problems, you to have a good antivirus and a good antimalware program. My biggest thing to learn on Linux, for a newbie like me is the ( terminal ) i get around fine on Linux, i will be learning a long time.

I do need to ask this? I get updates through the terminal sudo apt-get update is this as good as getting updates through ( update manager ) i went update manager long ago, it messed everything up. Updating took so long, Linux Mint was so unstable i had to reload it. Thank,s Chuck

The differances are this.

1. Through the terminal you get them all no choice. Whether they have been tested, approved, safe to use you get them.

2. With the Update Manager you can choose which ones you want. You can also do that by setting the options to only show the safe and tested ones.

Does it do the things that you want it to do in place of Windows 10?

How does the system run on Linux? Everything work?

Have you thought about installing it onto a USB Drive like you would a normal drive. Ever since I have started doing mine like that I have had no issues with Linux outside of the ones that I personally create over tweaking the system.

Get a Laptop drive and install that into the system and install Linux on that and see how it does this way you do not mess up the Drive with Windows 10 on it.

I feel very comfortable using Linux Mint 17.3 Cinnamon. In fact i like it alot. It runs perfect on my laptop. Iam on Linux now. I like my Linux better than Window,s. I think its easy to customize, although iam still learning. The big thing i like about Linux its free. I understand about updates, that makes sense to me. Thank,s Chuck
