Hello there,

My laptop freezes randomly and even the mouse doesn't work. I am not running any high-end software or games, just using the laptop to browse the internet and watch videos on VLC player. Now even during shutting down my laptop, it freezes at the Shutting Down window. Sometimes it displays errors like "Your PC ran into a problem and needs to restart. We're just collecting some error info and then we'll restart for you. Stop code: DRIVER POWER STATE FAILURE. or sometimes "VIDEO DXGKRNL FATAL ERROR"

Please help,

Milano

Thank you for your reply.
I did all the steps. So I am having problems due to overheating my laptop? And do I have to run the Speed fan application every time I use my laptop?

milano,

Please post a Speccy url as was requested, what you have post is useless.

To publish a Speccy profile to the Web:

In Speccy, click File, and then click Publish Snapshot.

In the Publish Snapshot dialog box, click Yes to enable Speccy to proceed.

Speccy publishes the profile and displays a second Publish Snapshot. You can open the URL in your default browser, copy it to the clipboard, or close the dialog box.

sorry, here you go:

While Peter is not around I will mention two of the main things that we can see in Speccy.

Windows is well out of date and Windows updates are failing to install, this most likely because of the below.

You are running out of storage space on the C: partition where Windows lives, why this is bad is explained below.

Partition 1
Partition ID: Disk #0, Partition #1
Disk Letter: C:
File System: NTFS
Volume Serial Number: CACBA429
Size: 99 GB
Used Space: 81 GB (81%)
Free Space: 18.5 GB (19%)

For Windows to be able to run efficiently and to be able to update, on a mechanical HDD you need to have between 20 and 25% of the partition or drive available as free storage space at all times and on an SSD between 10 and 20%, if you don`t you risk Windows becoming corrupt or not being able to update which also puts you at risk of malware attack.

Data only storage devices should not be allowed to get any lower than 10% of free storage space of the full capacity of the drive/partition on the drive, this also to avoid data corruption.

Please note that storage devices can physically fail if the amount of free storage space is allowed to drop below the required 10 or 20/25% minimum.

Uninstall as many unused programs, games, videos and music files as you can and get yourself another means of backing up to, post back when you have between 25 and 30% free storage on the C: drive/partition and we can go from there.

Done. 40% free storage on C: drive/partition

Try updating to the latest version of Windows 10 which is 20H2, download from here it may take a while so when done post a new Speccy url for Peter to check.

No you do not have to run it every time. It is more to show us what is happening
