My avast anti-virus licence is expired and it wont let me update

When i go to check the box where it says free it takes me to a screen to make me buy a subscription. On the bottom there is a place to click "no thanks". I click that and it just takes me back to the original screen without renewing the licence. When i try and uninstall that wont work either. How do i get te licence to renew?
 
Its working when i uninstalled and re-installed but i just did that last month so i dont know why the licence expired after just a month. Also, why wouldnt it let me renew without forcing me to select paying for it?

Sometimes you just need to need well enough alone, it just happens like that sometimes with a computer the only way to fix this or that with a computer is to uninstall and re install a program. :)
 
thanks. do you have that avast link you sent me before? I want to save it. The one that works with vista. I used it today but i didnt save it.
 
Thanks. Just 1 more question. Is it better to leave the computer on all the time or shut it off when not in use?
 
I turn mine off, when I’m not using it. It’s really up to you.

I have always turned my off.

the eternal question is;
  • turn off and save power but the on/off cycle puts the greatest electrical load on components
  • or, leave on and have the components wear out due to wear and tear and constant current load
in my experience, the pro's and con's of both negate each other.
add to that, how many PC's do we keep for more than, what?, a few years any way - in other words, we move on far quicker than any "should I turn my PC off" consequence will be detected.

Yikes, mine is 13 years old and still going. If i get a new comp can i still get one with wires, not a wireless one?

Do you mean go to start globe and click on shut down or hit the shift key on the keyboard? I have been leaving mine on for 3 or 4 days at a time then shuting it down for 8 hours or so every 4th day.

To add another perspective:

I restart my computer once a week (To freshen things up), but I also put it to sleep/hibernate at night when I am not using it, otherwise it's on.

The advice you were given before is exactly right, but as Bruce said, it's 6 on one side, half a dozen on the other. Every electronic part will break eventually, it's just a matter of when and 'what if'.

If i get a new comp can i still get one with wires, not a wireless one?

There are many types of computers, but the two main ones are Desktops (wired), and Laptops/Notebooks ("wireless"), either will work and both have their pros and cons depending on what you need most out of your PC.

Computers have come a long way in the past 13 years, you can't go wrong either way. :)

What i mean is my desktop has a cable from under the house that connects the internet to the computer. It isnt wifi. Eeverything is connected with wires including the mouse. I can still get a computer like that?
 
That's not the computer, that's the devices themselves. Internet, mice, keyboards, etc all come in wired and wireless variants. If it's a laptop you might have to purchase a hub to get all of those ports nowadays, but it's still doable one way or another.
