Hello people,
I am writing this post because lately i am facing a microsoft office error when i am trying to upload a word file. Specifically, i was uploading my cv in some sites in order to find a job. However, i was keep getting an error which was saying: Word could not create a work file. Check the temp environment. I did try some google solutions but i wasnt able to solve it. Also, i was skipping this message during the upload and seemingly it was fine but i am not sure of this now since i did not get too many replies. I mean my upload was okay despite this message or not? Any solution would be valuable. Thanks in advance!!!

Hello proz0r and welcome to PCHF!

We can assist you with the reported issue. You mentioned that you have already tried a few troubleshooting steps, which steps have you taken? This will help us narrow down the possible cause a bit quicker :).

Also, which version of Microsoft Office are you using?

Hello again,

Well i created my pchf account in 2014 and i think my last login was 2 years ago so it must be deleted due to inactivity or upgrade of the database. Its so good to be back in this great community.

Regarding the troubleshooting steps i did the registry edit and the creation of a folder called INetCacheContent.Word. Hopefully i followed the steps correctly. I am using microsoft office 2016 and it runs smoothly except when i am trying to upload a file (for example my cv as i have told). So i am wondering if i really uploaded my cv in some sites. Seemingly was okay but does this message means that nothing was uploaded?

Thanks again!!!

have you tried this; http://www.thewindowsclub.com/word-could-not-create-work-file
what about a Quick Repair, and if that doesn't help, an Online Repair of Office 2016?
when you say upload, do you mean straight out of Word 2016 and into.... where.... OneDrive?
or are you uploading the saved .DOC file?
can you give an example of the site you are uploading to?

Hello,
Yes the path in the regedit seems okay. I did a repair but nothing seems to change. However, i can't do online repair because for some reasons there is not an option in the repair section. Regarding the upload i mean straight to a site database (i will attach an image). It might be a problem with the word file, i mean if it is read-only or saved in cache or something like the user rights of my laptop (how can i check everything again?). Could we start it over? I mean start troubleshooting from basics again because it looks messy. Thanks for your time!!
P.S: sorry for the greek words in the images

We can certainly do that. Let us start by running the repair tool. You can see how via this article - https://support.office.com/en-US/Ar...0e-a6b40c5bb88b#ID0EAADAAA=Windows_7_or_Vista

If the first option does not work for you, you can use the easy tool found in option two which will completely uninstall office. From there you will need to reboot and try to reinstall Office 2016.

Please let us know the results in your next reply.

while doing Twich's suggestions, just a quick test.....
in Word, use Save As and save your doc as a PDF.
get out of Word and upload that PDF and see what happens.
in this sort of instance, sending them a PDF would be better than sending your DOC file anyway.

Hello Twitch6000,
I reinstalled microsoft office and now instead of getting this kind of message, i am getting another message (i will attach an image because i cant describe it). In the image it says that microsoft word is trying to recover more info and it may take some time. I bet you can get the message from the icon info anyway :). Also, i did try to check event viewer in order to provide more info but i could not find something happened in this exact time. Maybe i did something wrong but if you think that checking the event viewer for more info, guide me through and i will send you whatever is there. Thanks again and sorry for the greek in the image as well.

Hello Bruce,
I did try it and it works fine as PDF file. Even as a word file it uploads normally but for some reasons this message pops up. Thanks for your suggestion!!

I'm confused as to when that message pops up?
So either as a PDF or DOCX file, you upload fine?, they get your CV and everyone is happy.
So when does Word show that message, when you go back into Word after uploading to the web?

Yes i think that the upload is okay because i did upload in a site then i took the link, downloaded the file and it was okay. I hope it works the same way in the other sites. This message pops up exactly when i am choosing the word file to upload (maybe first image will help you understand). Word is not open at all during the upload.

I noticed you keep mentioning a specific document. Is this error only occurring with that specific document ?

If so try this -

  1. Start Microsoft Word.
  2. On the File menu, click Open.
  3. In the Open dialog box, click to select the file that you want to open.
  4. Click the down arrow on the Open button, and then click Open and Repair.

Hello, no it happens with all word files.

Found this one too:
"...Open IE, go to Tools, Internet Options.
Under the General Tab, browsing history section, click Settings.
Check the current location. On Windows Vista/7, this SHOULD be c:\users\username\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary Internet Files.
If it’s not, click Move Folder and change it to that.
It will force you to log off (this is normal).
Log back in, and problem should be resolved...."

Perhaps, try enabling the Admin account on your machine and see if the error continues.

Hello, i think my laptop go only one user which is admin as well. However, could you tell me how can i do this to check it for sure? Also, i suspect that it might be a problem with rights etc etc. Thanks!!!

Hello there, it worked. I did like 5 upload without the pop-up message. I was suspecting that it might be a rights problem but i had no clue how to express it. So, what now? Can i change settings to fix it? Thanks!

Do this from your main account, make sure and follow the instructions to the letter.

Windows Repair.

Install (use the direct download) the Tweaking.com - Windows all in one repair tool. Then boot Windows into Safe Mode, (Make Certain To Run This Program As Administrator) then run through the Prescan on step 2 tab. Then skip to step 5 and create a system restore point. Then go to the repair tab...

Notice create a registry backup is ticked by default, so no need to do so in step 5...

Now run the program, with the boxes ticked in the picture below.

Click Image Below For Better Resolution.

May want to save picture or write down what boxes need ticked, since you will run this in Safe Mode.

Important: Make certain to reboot twice after running this tool!!
