The mic shows as picking up sound when going to Sound via Control Panel (this is the Realtek(R) Audio). But then it doesn't work in the Windows Voice Recorder app, or Loom (which is what I most commonly use it for).

Steps I've tried:
  • Set correct microphone access permissions
  • Set default recording device
  • Disable app-exclusive control
  • Make sure hardware is compatible with the mic
  • Make sure driver is up to date
  • Make sure Windows updates are done
  • Restarted computer

Any thoughts on next troubleshooting steps?

I'm not following what you mean by default mic.
desktop PC's don't have a default mic.

if you post the link to your Speccy results, that will help a lot.

Sorry, it's a laptop, not desktop. And I didn't post the Speccy link, but up above in a prior reply are the results it gave.

that posted Speccy result is limited.
the complete report shows all other manner of useful stuff that may pinpoint a issue.
like background process, startup programs, make/model of hardware, all installed software etc.

was it working before the Win11 upgrade?

have you tried going into Device Manager and right clicking Realtek Audio and Uninstall?
then reboot the laptop and it will auto reinstall.
see if that helps.

if not, go to the Dell website and download your audio driver.
uninstall it again and this time use the Dell driver package to reload it.

That worked! Uninstalled the realtek audio from Device Manager then restarted. So simple, can't believe I didn't think to try that.
May well have been tied to the Win11 upgrade. Thanks again
