Hello, I hope to get some advice as I’m pretty much lost at how to remedy my issue. The issue I’m having is recently I updated to the latest Nivida graphics driver using GeForce Experience and this immediately caused my FPS when gaming to go from >140 to around 30. I noticed when this FPS drop was occurring my GPU was running around 65-70 degrees with 100% load and my CPU was only around 40 degrees with 40-50% load. Restarting the PC failed to help the issue. I have gone back and installed the previous Nivida driver and this seemed to fix the issue temporarily but after a few days the same problem returned. At this point I’ve been going back a forth between driver versions or performing reinstalls of current drivers which all seems to help but again temporarily. Anybody have an idea what is going on?

Let's get some more information:

Download and run the free version of speccy.

Once you have ran speccy, follow the instructions to upload a snapshot found here.


To publish a Speccy profile to the Web:
  1. In Speccy, click File, and then click Publish Snapshot.
  2. In the Publish Snapshot dialog box, click Yes to enable Speccy to proceed.
  3. Speccy publishes the profile and displays a second Publish Snapshot dialog box. You can open the URL in your default browser, copy it to the clipboard, or close the dialog box.

Actually I may have figured out the issue with help from a friend. Inside GeForce performance tuning overlay there are three sliders (I’m sure most of you know the sliders) Maximum Voltage, Maximum Power, and Target Temperature my sliders were set to the most minimum position, this was causing my RTX 3080 to operate at maximum 120W at 100%. Once I adjusted the sliders to their maximum positions I ran Heaven benchmark and got my FPS up to 300 and power consumption was 320W which from what I read is what this GPU was designed for.
I’m really not the best when it comes to understanding PC’s but I’m learning and maybe it’ll help some one else reading this forum
