hi! so I recently upgraded my GPU to an RTX 3070, my old GPU was 1660 Super. I’ve been playing my usual games and have realised that I basically get the same FPS as my old GPU, with my 3070 I don’t get above 200 FPS on Rainbow Six Siege regardless of what my graphics are set at, I can have them at low to ultra settings and it’ll permanently sit at 120-150 fps, same with Call of Duty. I average about 70-80 fps regardless of what my graphics settings are at. Meanwhile my GPU utilisation barely reaches over 40-60% on any game, I didn’t realise there was an issue until I searched it up and apparently your utilisation is meant to be 90-100% on demanding games. I’m just worried I’m not getting the most out of my graphics card.

Now I’m not very good with computers if I’m being honest, so please confirm:

When I upgraded my GPU was all I had to do was download the new graphics driver for my 3070? Or did I have to download something else that I forgot about. Also is there anything I need to change in my Windows settings or NVIDA control panel/ settings. Because all I basically did was download the 3070 Driver and went back to my usual activites/games.

My specs:
RTX 3070
11th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-11400F @ 2.60GHz

I understand you want the most out of the graphics card it can offer but some people would kill for 150FPS on ultra settings in any game.

in R6:Seige Load the game, go into the hub, click the gear icon, then options, then choose the display tab. change the Vsync settings and test it. What this does is sync your framerate with your monitor's refresh rate which can cap your FPS.

Which Call of Duty are you referring to? Some of the newer titles have similar settings that can cap your FPS.

Yes, I completely understand and don’t want to sound ungrateful whatsoever although I’m just confused as to why i’m reaching the same fps as my old GPU. I’ll make sure to try Vsync on R6 when I’m on my computer next.

I’m also referring to COD MW2.
I really just wanted to post this to make sure I’m not missing something due to it being my first time upgrading my GPU.

Thank you!

Check each games setting in the display section, especially for any FPS cap.

COD MW2 has a ton of settings, meandering through can take some time.

In COD MW2, Go to settings, Display, and look for Vsync (in Game) Turn this off.
Under the Vsync option is an option called Custom Framerate, I have mine set to Unlimited.

Yeap, just checked Vysnc is definitely off for all and FPS cap is set to unlimited. Any other reason why my FPS stays at a certain number regardless of the settings?

Let's get a speccy snapshot.

Download Speccy Here

To publish a Speccy profile to the Web:

  1. In Speccy, click File, and then click Publish Snapshot.
  2. In the Publish Snapshot dialog box, click Yes to enable Speccy to proceed.
  3. Speccy publishes the profile and displays a second Publish Snapshot dialog box. You can open the URL in your default browser, copy it to the clipboard, or close the dialog box.

When you say, "stays at a certain number", you mean it hits 120 and never moves up or down?

In your Nvidia control panel, what is your resolution and refresh rate setting value? Are any of the settings "grayed" out or un-changeable?

Sorry for the confusion, I mean that it fluctuates between 100-150 which is weird considering I’m changing the graphics settings AND i’ve upgraded my GPU.

No worries! Take your time. I mainly use the Samsung (second) monitor for my Discord/Spotify and watching Shows. I use my Acer monitor for gaming

• Please press Windows(Key) + R In Run box type in 'msconfig' and press OK
• Please click on the services tab.
• Down at the bottom of the same Window, you'll see 'Hide All Microsoft services', please check
that box.
• Now select Disable All.
• Click Ok, Apply and Restart the computer and check if the issue persists.
Re-enable one at a time reboot each time, test. Hopefully the culprit will be revealed.

Re-enable all unless you find some that you don't want to start with Windows.
We are on a path of ruling out possible culprits.

There are many multiple users with the 3070 reporting the exact problem. Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be a one size fits all fix. One user uninstalled his 3rd party Anti Virus, one user shut off overclocking but kept his 3rd party AV.

I'm looking at settings in the BIOS right now. Are you comfortable changing settings in your BIOS/UEFI?
