Hello all,

I have recently bought a new laptop, but almost immediately the screen started sort of flickering. Once in a while (Sometimes more than others) the screen just goes to black for a split second and comes back on. I have absolutely no idea what is causing this, but I don't think it's because of a faulty graphics card. Does anyone here have experience with this problem?

Try connecting the notebook to an external screen to see if the same thing happens, get back to us with any outcome and we can go from there.

Thanks for the reply. This is something I have already done, but unplugged to save space on my desk and yes, the same thing happens on that monitor too.
 
Slight chance that it could be hardware related but most likely software related, the latter includes settings within Windows itself.

Download then run Speccy (free) and post the resultant url for us, details here, this will provide us with information about your computer hardware + any software that you have installed that may explain the present issue/s.

To publish a Speccy profile to the Web:

In Speccy, click File, and then click Publish Snapshot.

In the Publish Snapshot dialog box, click Yes to enable Speccy to proceed.

Speccy publishes the profile and displays a second Publish Snapshot. You can open the URL in your default browser, copy it to the clipboard, or close the dialog box.

The processor in the notebook was released more than two years ago, is this notebook out of the box new and therefore covered by warranty.

Your notebook does not have a graphics card registering in Speccy only on die video provided by the Intel i5-1135G7 CPU.

What is the exact model name or number of this Lenovo Ideapad 5, there are numerous versions both AMD and Intel and we need the exact info to find the correct drivers and confirm whether or not a dedicated GPU is meant to be present.

Windows is shown to have ben installed only recently so have a couple of questions;

Was it a clean install or an in place upgrade from W10 to W11.**

Did the problem start before or after Windows 11 was installed.

What is the computer typically being used for when the issue/s happen.

What are the brand and model name or number of the external screen that you have used and what type of port was used, HDMI or display port etc.

Who installed the awful McAfee software, totally unneeded and not as good as Windows own Defender and Firewall.

** Regardless of how Windows was installed it was done wrong, see my canned explanation below;

Once Windows has been clean installed you must then install first the MBs chipset drivers, then the storage/SATA drivers and third the graphics drivers, the drivers can either come from a disk provided by the motherboard manufacturer or downloaded from their site and saved to a flash drive etc, this is a must and Windows should not be allowed to check for updates before it has been done as more often than not Windows installs the wrong drivers or in the incorrect order and this can cause all sorts of problems.

Yes, it's completely new. I bought it from CoolBlue about a month ago. It's a very reliable franchise where I buy all my electronics. I'm not sure where I can find the modelnumber, I'll have to look that up. I'm not sure how Windows 11 can be installed recently as it was pre-installed out of the box. I didn't alter anything. The issue seems to mostly happen when I come across a video on FB during scrolling for example, or youtube or any other site which hosts video's. Strangely enough it doesn't seem to do it on Netflix at all. I generally tend to have several pages open if that makes any difference. The external screen I used was a Philips 243V, modelnumber: 243V7QDAB/00. It is HDMI (laptop) to D-SUB (screen). McAfee was also pre-installed on it.

What can`t speak can`t lie and your OS is clearly shown to have been installed on November 5th 2022 and fwiw Windows 11 wasn`t even a thing when your processor was released back in 2020 some twelve months before Windows 11 was released.

Likewise Windows was allowed to update before the more important chipset drivers were installed, the chipset drivers are what enables the MB to be able to communicate with all the other hardware.

Being new have you not got the sales invoice, that will have all the details on it.

Makes a world of difference and for two reasons, the CPUs video is weaker than a dedicated GPU is and an internet connection is always going to make things worse by using up resources and its security plug ins affecting browser performance, McAfee is most likely only a trial version but even if it isn`t I would get rid of it pronto.

Get rid of CCleaner as well before Windows gets hosed.

I'm sorry for the short answer at the moment, but does this mean the laptop isn't actually new at all? We're talking about a huge franchise here. Not that that automatically means it can be trusted, but I'm just wondering (and very tired, so yeah).
 
Can we have the correct model name or number of the notebook or not, you are wanting us to give you an answer based on assumption and that is not going to happen.
