Hello. I've got a Lenovo. I5 8g ram running windows 10. The average boot time is 2.5 minutes.

Is there any recommendations to speed up
 
If the computer is a desktop can you post the brand and model name or number of the power supply (PSU).

Download then run Speccy (free) and post the resultant url for us, details here, this will provide us with information about your computer hardware + any software that you have installed that may explain the present issue/s.

To publish a Speccy profile to the Web:

In Speccy, click File, and then click Publish Snapshot.

In the Publish Snapshot dialog box, click Yes to enable Speccy to proceed.

Speccy publishes the profile and displays a second Publish Snapshot. You can open the URL in your default browser, copy it to the clipboard, or close the dialog box.
 
No power supply details required, just the Speccy url.

Running out of storage space and RAM only working in single channel are just two possible causes, having more than one AV is another.
 
Couple of things of note in Speccy but the below is the most likely cause of your problems.

Having more than one AV or Firewall installed on your computer is bad, it will slow down the computer, cause internet connection problems and leave you with no AV protection at all if they cancel each other out as they fight for resources.

Windows 8, 8.1, 10 and 11 come with an improved Windows Defender, it offers the same real-time anti-virus/anti-malware protection as Microsoft Security Essentials. Windows Defender also shares the same malware signature definitions as Microsoft Security Essentials, and Forefront Endpoint Protection. Technically, Microsoft Security Essentials has not been renamed Windows Defender, or combined with it in Windows 8, 8.1, 10 and 11.

If any AV product that you have is a paid for version you should always make sure that you have a copy of the product key kept somewhere safe just in case you ever wish to reinstall it.


360 Total Security removal steps here

Once 360 Total Security has been correctly uninstalled, check to see if Windows Defender has auto enabled and allow it to update and carry out a full scan of your computer.

Once done, restart, test by using the computer as you normally, post back with an update when you are ready.
 
Hí. That has certainly helped speed up the boot times and initialisation at start up. Thanks

The other observation is that post boot up it runs at 100% disk usage for quite a few minutes before calming down. Which impedes doing anything else in that period

360 AV was installed twice.

From your latest Speccy;

One install of 360 AV is still present and needs to go, repeat the previous steps to get rid of it.
 
ive checked in Control panel uninstall programs and dont see it
ive also checked in revo uninstaller and do not see a outstanding version of 360
 
Well we can see it in Speccy so there must be traces of it somewhere, this is what happens when multiple AVs get installed.

Post an Autoruns log for us, see here

1: Extract the Autoruns Zip file contents to a folder.

2: Double-click the "Autoruns.exe".

3: Click on the "Hide Signed Microsoft and Windows Entries” option.

4: Go to File then to Export As or Save in some versions.

5: Save AutoRuns.txt file to known location like your Desktop > when you click on File > Save you will then get the option to Save as type, click the drop down tab, change it to Text and then click the Save button.

6: Attach to your next reply.

No signs of it in Autoruns, did Windows Defender activate, scan and install updates and had you restarted the PC after uninstalling 360 AV before running Speccy again.

Need a direct answer to the above, your screenshot does not tell us what we are asking.

Hi. Okay I've sorted Defender out. I now have it enabled and updated as per your screen shot
Ive rebooted multiple times since and the elapsed boot time seems to have regressed to when I had 360 installed
 
That would suggest that 360 AV or traces of it are still present and causing conflicts with Windows Defender.

Can you post a new Speccy url for us.

Being that we cannot find the second installation of 360 AV we may have to move the thread to malware removal where they have special tools that can sort this type of issue. 360 AV or orphaned files could be in the Windows registry or even hiding in a web browser.

What is set as your default web browser.
