Hi all,
Im having an issue with a HP Envy 15 laptop thats a good few years old, the laptop had windows 8 when I originally got it and then upgraded to w10 which it worked fine on for years, but now my daughter needs it for schoolwork and roblox ‍and its so slow that I decided a fresh o/s install was the best way to go. But clearly not.
the problem is the graphics card, its a Radeon HD 8600/8700m,
if I download any Radeon drivers the system on restart after installation says “ no AMD graphics drivers is installed, or the AMD driver is not functioning properly”. the display driver says its working but anything graphic intensive wont run properly and I get Bsod
If I uninstall all Radeon drivers and let windows build its own, again on restart it says windows has topped the device because it has reported a problem code 43.
Sorry for the long story, just thought more info the better.
Any help would be grateful.
Regards

Hello Sycko80,

Please do not start more than one thread for the same issue as the forums security system detects the post as spam and hides them.

Can you tell us the exact model of HP Envy 15 it is that you have, there are many and not with the same specs.

Download then run Speccy (free) and post the resultant url for us, details here, this will provide us with information about your computer hardware + any software that you have installed that may explain the present issue/s.

To publish a Speccy profile to the Web:

In Speccy, click File, and then click Publish Snapshot.

In the Publish Snapshot dialog box, click Yes to enable Speccy to proceed.

Speccy publishes the profile and displays a second Publish Snapshot. You can open the URL in your default browser, copy it to the clipboard, or close the dialog box.

No problem but can likewise can I ask that you do not quote every reply as we have to read the full post to make sure nothing gets missed,, thanks.

Speccy url is ok but you missed answering the above for us, take a look at the list here

We need the exact model so we can find what drivers are available, being so old there will not be any Windows 10 drivers available and being that you have reinstalled Windows 10 you have lost the only compatible chipset drivers. these are only available from HP and are so important as they are what enables the other hardware to communicate with the MB.

Hi Phil,

so I believe the model number is 15-j151sa, and serial 5CG4290P85 (HP ENVY 15-j151sa 15.6 Inch AMD A10-5750M Quad Core 8GB 1TB Radeon HD Full HD Entertainment Windows 8.1 Laptop - Laptops Direct) i believe this could be the one, I got these codes from the battery pack, I used the serial code on the manufacturers website here (HP ENVY Notebook - 15-ae104ne Software and Driver Downloads | HP® Customer Support) , but the gpu drivers result in issues, I havnt any software on the laptop other than Roblox and I tried Steam but that kept blue screening.

Sorry, just realised I replied quote, i wont do it again :)

You quoting every post and double posting is triggering the spam detector and your posts are being hid until approved by a mod or admin, easy fix, no quoting every reply and wait for us to get back to you before posting again ;)

Create a new folder on the desktop, name it AMD video drivers.

Download and save to the folder the drivers from here

Download DDU from here

Create a new system restore point then run DDU and uninstall all present AMD video drivers.

Restart the computer in Safe Mode only (No Networking).

Install the new GPU drivers that you saved to the folder on your desktop.

Change the Windows Power Plan from Balanced to High Performance, your discrete GPU will not get enough power for gaming if you don't do this.

Restart the computer, test by trying the game then post back with an update for us.

Hi Phil,

upon trying to instal the driver in safe mode I get “failed to load detection driver” any ideas?

Hello Sycko80,

Strange, no option but to try it in Windows under normal boot then.

Phill, your a legend bud, that sorted the issue out. Thank you so much for your time and knowledge. I have a very happy 8yr old

No problem, glad we could help and real pleased to hear that your little one is happy :) (y)

Couple of tips for you, create a new system restore point now that everything is stable, always create one before updating Windows and last but not least, do not be tempted to update drivers if things are working as they should be, see my canned info below as to why;

Once Windows has been installed, you install the necessary drivers for the MB and other hardware and then leave well alone, drivers should not be allowed to auto update and you should never update any driver/s unless the new drivers are intended to resolve a specific issue that you are having, installing new drivers unnecessarily can actually cause you the very issues that any new drivers are intended to resolve and uninstalling the new drivers may not resolve the problem/s that installing the new drivers has caused.

Depending on priority it can take many months before the driver provider releases any fix and depending on the age of the hardware or software concerned they sometimes do not even bother or may have already announced an end of support.

Absolutely, the drivers will stay as they are until the laptop goes in the bin. All advice you have given is most welcome and once again I'm very grateful for your help.
