Lag spikes similar to FPS drops

Over the past week almost out of nowhere I started experiencing FPS drops that would bring almost any game I play down to 0. Thought it was just the game but then it also happened outside of the game like just on my desktop or a browser. I ended up removing any anti aliasing on the Nvidia control panel and now I drop down to 55 FPS in game and the lag spikes are less interrupting, but nonetheless still stupidly annoying. After not restarting my computer for a couple of hours though it would go back to 0 FPS in games and the lag spikes become worse.

I've seen it may be a CPU issue but my temps seem fine and don't have any insane usages. Also been told it could be a storage problem but used CrystalDiskInfo to check if there are any problems and both my storages seem fine. Thanks again for your time

SHOOT sorry misread the message but I have a Corsair RM (2019) 650W 80+ Gold PSU

An ideal PSU for the GPU that you have so a power issue is effectively ruled out.

Only a couple of things of note in Speccy and tbh I`m not sure that they would cause the behaviour that you mention, they must be checked first though so that they can be ruled out as the cause of the issue/s.

CPU
AMD Ryzen 7 3700X: 49 °C

The CPU looks to be running warm for a computer that is not under any load, this could be being caused by one of two things or a combination of both, your RAM is being overclocked past what your CPU is comfortable with and you have a second screen attached, the latter on its own can raise the CPU temps by up to 10 °C

Size: 32768 MBytes
Channels #: Dual
DRAM Frequency: 1799.6 MHz

Go into the BIOS and manually set the RAM to 3200MHz so that it is not tripping the CPU up.

While you do these troubleshooting steps, disconnect the HD TV from the computer and use just the ASUS screen connected to the HDMI port on the GPU.

Once you have done the above changes, restart the computer, run Speccy again then post the new url for us.

In addition to the above and what is the most likely cause of the issue/s;

Speccy is showing Windows update issues and that you only have what is effectively a beta update installed of the latest version of Windows 10 which is 20H2, see the below;

2020-12-18 2020-11 Cumulative Update Preview for .NET Framework 3.5 and 4.8 for Windows 10, version 20H2 for x64 (KB4586876)

The Windows 10 update below is shown to have been installing since December 16th 2020

I did everything correctly and the stuttering lessened but were still noticeable. After about 2 hrs of usage of After Effects/gaming stuttering became more noticeable again. Hopefully I did all the steps correctly

Can I ask that you do not quote every reply as I have to read the full post to make sure nothing gets missed,, thanks.

The fact that things improved but then started going backwards again after two hrs suggests that the computer is having problems when under load, this could be a sign of something overheating.

Keep your set as it currently is, run the two tests below and then post back with an update once you have run the both tests.

Use the free versions of both;

Stress test your GPU with Furmark

Check your FPS etc with SUPERPOSITION

I used Furmark and 3DMark since the download for Unigine was taking a while. I didnt seem to get any major stuttering I do when I just use my computer in general for about 2 hours. Seems that 3Dmark also didnt pick up any of the few stutters that did happen which is weird.

How is the computer behaving in general atm.

After about 2 hrs of use it seems that the stuttering is become more predominant vs when I ran the 2 tests initially

What was the computer being used for when you started to notice the stutter after two hours of use, the more information that you provide the more likely that someone may spot something, we have tested and proven that your hardware is fine but what we cannot test is your internet connection and if the stutter to which you refer is internet related there is no point in us suggesting any further hardware tests.

Im not sure the intial stuttering because this was now a couple of weeks ago but I know it became most noticeable playing League of Legends, and thats when I noticed happening with every aspect of my PC. Yeah I understand that, its almost impossible to diagnose but I'm pretty sure its not my internet because I was using this PC for work/browsing way before it started happening. Also wouldn't know how internet would affect stuff like my cursor stuttering or working offline with Adobe products. Thanks for the help so far

Best thing that you can do is keep a log of when the stuttering starts, what the computer is being used for when the stuttering starts and how long the computer has been running for when the stuttering starts.

This is one of the hardest types of issue to resolve tbh, because all your hardware has passed all our tests all we can do is see if there is a pattern to the behaviour.

This is probably redundant information but I got a recording of the stuttering while I was working. Attached performance @ the stuttering. In the video I was just moving my mouse back and forth that should stay on the white canvas but the stuttering would not register my mouse movement causing it to go further away

yeah the mouse behaviour is the only evidence in the video but I've switched mouses from both wireless and wired from another working computer. It was just what I was doing at the moment to record it
