Welcome to PCHF OriginalMG,

Download then run Speccy (free) and post the resultant url for us, details here, this will provide us with information about your computer hardware + any software that you have installed that may explain the present issue/s.

To publish a Speccy profile to the Web:

In Speccy, click File, and then click Publish Snapshot.

In the Publish Snapshot dialog box, click Yes to enable Speccy to proceed.

Speccy publishes the profile and displays a second Publish Snapshot. You can open the URL in your default browser, copy it to the clipboard, or close the dialog box.

If you need to save the results as a txt file can you please edit out your Windows product key before uploading the information here.

Not sure if I have to reply directly to a message or not, just incase here it is again:

Couple of things of note in Speccy, Windows has what looks to be hundreds of failed updates and you have Microsoft Security Essentials anti virus protecting your computer, Windows being out of date can cause all sorts of problems and you don`t need Avira while you have MSE installed + if you have been trying to install Avira while MSE is installed that could also explain while Avira wouldn`t install.

Tip
If using a computer and not a mobile phone, please avoid adding multiple posts while waiting for us to reply to your last, edit your last post to include anything that you wish to add, this will ensure nothing gets overlooked which can sometimes happen if a thread has more than one page, it also avoids filling up folks inbox

I've tried updating windows but it keeps failing, I ran windows update troubleshooter and it says that it's working but the updates continue to fail installing.

Download then run the All in One Repair here, disregard the malware guidance but follow the other steps to the letter and in particular ensuring that you first create a new restore point and perform a proper Windows clean boot before running the repair, details for the clean boot here.

I did the clean boot and all of the steps and then the repair but the windows updates are still failing.

The AIO repair tool creates a log of any repairs carried out, can you find and upload it for us.

Got an early start so going offline now, be back after work tomorrow.

Lot of repairs done there but all good now so try deleting the two logs from your post an then uploading the updates one, we could do with seeing it if at possible, also to do;

Download and run CrystalDisk info standard edition from here

Run the program, grab any screenshots and attach to your next reply for us.

To capture and post a screenshot;

Click on the ALT key + PRT SCR key..its on the top row..right hand side..now click on start...all programs...accessories...paint....left click in the white area ...press CTRL + V...click on file...click on save...save it to your desktop...name it something related to the screen your capturing... BE SURE TO SAVE IT AS A .JPG ...otherwise it may be to big to upload... then after typing in any response you have... click on Attach files, click on post reply like you normally would.

Screenshot instructions are provided to assist those that may read this topic but are not yet aware of the “how to”.

I the update file is quite a bit bigger than the other 2 so I'll link through drop box, I hope that is alright.

Also I very much appreciate the help, I thought it would be a quick and easy fix but this is getting pretty crazy.

Sorry but not one for downloading from third party sites so lets go another way;

Download MiniToolBox and save the file to the Desktop.

Close the browser and run the tool, check the following options:

  • List last 10 Event Viewer log
  • List Installed Programs
Click on Go.

Post the resulting log in your next reply.

The problem appears to be with the Windows stand alone installer, AV protection can sometimes cause this but so can Windows being corrupt and likewise so can malware infection, if it looks like being the latter we will need to call in a security expert as it is not my area, I noticed that you download torrents, not good as torrents are notorious for spreading malware, uninstall uTorrent asap.

µTorrent (HKCU\...\uTorrent) (Version: 3.5.4.44632 - BitTorrent Inc.)

To see if it helps with installing the updates, temporarily uninstall MSE and Spybot, info here for uninstalling MSE and here for Spybot, once done, restart and see if you are able to install any updates but this time try manually selecting only three or four and see what happens, please be sure to start with the earliest updates first.

Nothing is working, I'm sure it's my own fault as I'm not very good with computers. I It's time for an upgrade anyway so I'll just wipe the computer and upgrade to windows 10. Very thankful for all the help :^)

What is not working.

If you do this you will have to pay circa $130 if you purchase Windows 10 in Canada, if we can get Windows 7 up to date you may still be able to upgrade to Windows 10 using your Windows 7 product key.

You are welcome btw :)
